Diet, What Not to Bring Up at a Party

It used to be religion and politics. But, these days, you also have to add diet...and maybe exercise too. Everyone thinks they know everything and that their way is the only way, and it just gets weird when you know they are wrong. LOL.

So, now it's not just religion and politics, I also include diet and exercise as things not to ever discuss.

I've never had an issue with exercise.

But the cult of Paleo has certainly turned diet into both politics and religion.

    ^^^ this.

Can you imagine how boring life would be if we couldn't have a heated discussion or two?

LOL I avoid talking about my weight loss like it's the plague.

People ask what I do - SURELY I've done some magic juice cleanse or was hypnotized - and they are so disappointed when I say I count calories, and do yoga. Basically, I eat less and I move more than I used to. No magic!

And when I know it's going to turn into snark, I just say I've been doing crack and walk off.

Sounds like a safe tactic, although you know it will inevitably come up... I kinda dodge away when someone mentions diet/exercise or anything of the type here. I've learned from experience, when you spit common sense at them, they don't want to hear it. They're trapped in magical diet fairyland with Dr. Oz and his rainbow ponies.

Hey now. That's my favorite kind of party!
  • i should add i used to be a vegan, and all my vegan friends were/are very militant about their beliefs. it made for many an uncomfortable dinner party ;P

THAT is why I usually don't talk at family gatherings... my sisters have challenges with politics, religion/faith, and diet and exercise. go figure! :P I have 6 sisters and 2 brothers... and no one sees eye to eye on anything... :P well, one of my younger sisters does with me... but she lives in AZ... :P
