so if trying to get in ketosis I'm assuming dairy is out because of the carbs?

Nah man, you're going to need the cheese to boost your fat and make your food worth eating. Milk is probably out of the question unless you can sneak it in there. For the most part you want all your carbs to come from veggies.0

milk is, yeah, probably out, but it really depends on how few carbs you need to go into ketosis. some people can go into ketosis eating under 50 per day. i have to stay under 20, so milk isn't an option for me. be careful with dairy in general, but small amounts of cheese are generally okay.0

Some cottage cheese works too.
As does some yummy plain Greek Yogurt. I like Dannon Oikos and Chobani.0 -

You are assuming correctly with just a few exceptions: cheeses, heavy cream, butter, and sour cream.
No milk (whole or otherwise!), no yogurt and no cottage cheese.0
