Nothing new here. We've known for years that soy has a high concentration of phytoestrogens. I've avoided them like the plague for at least 10 years as a result.0

Soy is no bueno. I get enough estrogen just from inhaling it around my female friends.0

Toxicologist here...I wouldn't fret over the occasional soy shake or stuff with soy protein in it for guys, but I just wouldn't make it your sole or main protein source.
Some soy protein (as in, in moderation) has been shown to very healthy, particularly for the heart.0 -
Something to note:
"In particular, no alteration of the secondary sexual characters were found (particularly notable
the absence of gynecomastia in men with elevated progesterone levels)."
Also something interesting was the increase in testosterone. (although not significantly significant - Table 2)
It's a Journal with a very low impact score and I wouldn't be too worried about it; however, I would look forward to future research.

Are we looking closer to the "occasional soy milk use during the week", or "daily 1-2 x tea / cereal servings" type of concentration?0 -
Something on the order of 25g/day (or say more than 20% of your daily protein) soy protein, but there really is no exact number that anybody could come up with that would be "safe" or "harmful".
I personally down a Clif Builders from time to time without a second thought (roughly 20g soy protein).
Soy is an important food source for the world, so it would be ridiculous to say it isn't safe to eat.
The subjects in the study either ate a LOT more than what I mentioned, or took a variety of plant based supplements.0 -

Indeed. In Asian countries where soy-based foods are a staple, there isn't an epidemic of man-boobs (although there certainly is in the US, and it has a lot more to do with junk food), and their rates of breast cancer (for which the risk is known to increase with increased estrogen exposure) are lower than in the West, although they increase when they adopt a Western diet.0
