Hi!

I'm Melissa, 23, currently living in St. Louis, Missouri. I'm working on getting back in to shape and hoping MFP will be the little extra help I need. I recently accepted a job at a Rec Center for a city Parks and Recreation Department so I really have no excuse for not getting back into shape. I'm looking to lose around 30 lbs. Any tips/suggestions would be helpful. I also want to run a 5k, but I've never been much of a runner so I have no clue on how to start training for it!

A 5K is about 3 miles. I can't run either, but I've done 5K's. Several months prior, I walked around a park for an hour in the beginning. If you can't do an hour, do what you can, like 15-30 minutes in the morning or at night, then increase your time 10 or 15 minutes more in a week or two weeks. You will build your endurance to do a 5K, and you don't have to run in the 5K unless you want to. You can always walk for 5 minutes and run for one minute intervals.
  • Good luck, Melissa! Grats on the new job, and you are so on your way to a new beginning here, too! We can do it!!
