cortizone injections

I went to a podiatrist 2 weeks ago for chronic ankle pain and swelling. My ankles have been this way for 10+ years, dating back to high school sports. They been sprained, twisted, bruised, and fractured a few times over the years.

Anyway, the dr took xrays and it looked clean. he put me on an oral steroid for 6 days, and orthotic inserts for my shoes to help with my very flat feet.
I had my follow up today and since there was no improvement he gave me steroid injections in each ankle. i had my gym bag with me to go after my appt, since the dr had said i could do low impact activity such as the elyptical. I double confirmed that i could work out after getting these shots... well i did 30 min med intensity on the elyptical and i am in SO much pain!!!
it's awful - my left ankle is much worst than my right - it hurts to put pressure on it. i'm hoping the pain reduces overnight... has anyone had these before in their ankles??

My dad had the same injection in his foot and I believe he said he had some discomfort for a while after the injection. But his problem wasn't near as severe as yours nor did he have that kind of history either. I would say rest them up then if they don't feel better tomorrow or the next day call the Dr.'s office and see whats up.

    Thanks for your feedback.

It is a little better today, as in i'm not limping. It just feels sore, so I hope it will gradually start feeling better.
I wanted to go to zumba tonight =/ I guess that's not going to happen! lol

The podiatrist also suggested I talk to my primary care dr about a water pill to help with the fluid build up on the sides of my ankles. The last time I was at my PCP he also mentioned my birth control pill may be making me retain more water. I've been off the pill for about a month now due to some other medications i was taking that would negate it's effectiveness, so i really don't know what to make of it. i'll talk to my dr about it

I have had them in my toe and finger joints. The pain was pretty bad for a few days (so bad the first day I thought something was wrong), and then they felt great.
