How bad fast food really is for you.

I always loved fast food. It was convenient (especially for me working 2 jobs with a baby). An plus who COULD beat A $ONE DOLLAR cheeseburger! Lol.
But I have been off of fast food for about 2 months now. I tried to eat a slice of pizza, because lets face it, pizza is amazing. I felt nauseous for 2 days! Thought maybe it was just the pizza. NEXT week I tried to eat an order of buffalo wings. same thing. Sicker than s*** feeling.
One your body gets rid of all of that crap, is it tough on your body unless it gets use to it again? Man, I am basically done with fast food for good, because I hated feeling like that!
ANY input?

Maybe some people react to it differently?? Maybe it depends on what macros you are currently putting into your body and then suddenly change those macros completely with just one meal??
I eat a diet that consists of 35/30/35 (C/P/F), so it's pretty balanced. I hadn't had takeaways, fast food or anything like that for many months. We decided to have a treat, so we had a Chinese, I ordered my old usual because it was a spur of the moment sort of thing. I portioned it out whereas I never did that before and just ate it and extras lol. I had that and a beer and felt fine. Didn't feel sick, didn't throw up at all.0 -
I've noticed that with diet soda. I used to have 7-9 cans of diet coke a day. I cut that out and now I might have 1-2 a week. If I do have more than 2 diet cokes in a day, I get horrible headaches now.0

I'd just be selective if I had to eat fast food ... Just eat the stuff closest to it's natural state.
I hear you about being busy but planning ahead is the way to go ... some hard-boiled eggs, some cheese, some nuts has to be more nutritious than the average take-out.
Don't get me wrong, I won't starve anyone in the name of 'perfect food' but there can be a balance.0 -
Marcilenne I have had the same experience with fast food/greasy food. So I don't eat it anymore. If I have to go to McDonalds, I get the grilled southwest chicken salad. And I can't do soda at all anymore. I am diabetic and there's been too many times when i know I've ordered Coke Zero or Diet Coke, and got the real thing because when I test my blood sugar after it's through the roof. So I just go with water. it's cheaper anyway.0

I don't have that reaction. Can go months without eating fast food... and then that first kebab with extra chilli sauce... goes down a treat, even if the meat is basically entrails and fat.
My mum does though. Whenever she eats fast food or sweet things, or just overindulges on good stuff she feels rotten for a while afterward. For that reason her diet has always been 10x better than mine and she didn't gain the sort of weight I have. Maybe some people just have really sensitive stomachs? I know I can eat yoghurt that's been out for several days or week old leftovers and not get ill. Should the first world ever experience real food shortages I swear... the rest of you will starve to death and I'll be feasting on garbage and dead rats. Only upside!0 -
I have had a similar experience. I don't eat fast food anymore, for the most part. It's been about 5 years or more since it was a regular part of my diet.
A friend and I make an annual trip to McDonald's on St Patty's day for a shamrock shake and fries, and there might be a road trip or something with limited options wheree I get something from taco bell, but other than that I never eat that kinda fast food. I might do subway on occasion, but that's only once every few months or so.0 -
The more Iook into food, the more I realize that unless you are shopping purely in the meat, seafood or grocery aisles, everything is "fast" food.0

I agree with Captain... My diet is mostly meat/produce, since I stopped eating fast food (I'm going to say ESPECIALLY fast food but there are other things) I've noticed a change in how my body tolerates it. The last time I ate Wendy's (months ago) it made me sick to my stomach and I had uhh, digestive issues all night. My old self used to eat Wendy's 3 times a week. Yes, your digestive system adapts to what you put into it. Absolutely.0

I'm a from scratch/cook at home kinda gal for the most part, but still have take out pizza & In-N-Out Burger maybe twice a month with no issues. I enjoy every bite! Only thing I can't really take any more is soda - too sweet and I was gonna say too bubbly, but I drink beer with no issues.... But I prefer water or unsweetened iced tea to drink now.0

I'm in the same boat. After taking a couple months off from fast food, I had some Jack in the Box tacos. I felt like puking after eating them.0
-
I had the same thing happen with some fast food. Fast food places with a drive thru are more likely hurt my stomach. Firehouse subs and Five Guys n Fries are thankfully still edible and make tasty things I can occasionally fit into my calories.0
-
i ate extremely healthy for months then had an arbys sandwich and threw up.... fast food is toxic!! haha... but delicious0
-
Yep, every time I have fast food I feel CRAPPY after.0
-
i have only had fast food a few time a year for the last 5 years or so. i had arby's on new years day, and not since then. if i can help it i will never eat fast food again. this is one of so many reasons why. i get that it is cheap, especially for families, but there are so many places to cut in your budget - to me, food is just not one of them.0
-
I dunno about anyone else, but I can eat my body weight in chicken wings and then sit there with the stupidest, most satisfied smile for the rest of the night.

I have had the same reaction. The only one I can eat is Arby's, everything else (other then McDonald's salads) makes me nauseous and throw up in my mouth. Not sure what causes it, but even pizza doesn't smell or look appetizing anymore Most recent experience was Monday night (i was working right up until my class started at 7). the hubby decided to go get McDonald's instead of bringing me something healthy, he did get a salad and a frappe (you are talking about a guy that unless i make him lunch, he will eat out sometimes 2-3 times a day and lose weight, as to where i gain it). The frappe and i didn't have a very pleasant experience and sitting in my math class with my tummy hurting wasn't fun, nor was the nauseating feeling after. I have been cleaning up my diet recently (since march, getting rid of small unhealthy things at a time) and there are things that fast food wise i will probably never eat again (like anything from Taco Bell). Will i miss it? eh probably not, and i usually steer clear of it because of how sick it makes me.0
-
I took me longer than a couple of months, but now - yes. I tried eating a hamburger the other day, and felt sick the rest of the day. I just had the same thing happen Monday when I tried to eat pizza at a child's bday party. Makes me sad. Pizza is my weakness...:sad:0
-
i had a brownie this morning and felt just sick.....either my body is rejecting the unhealthy crap, or the guilt was getting me!0
-
I went from frying pan (fast foods) to fire (processed supermarket foods) to my current "RDA fats, sugars, salts" state (I make most of my own major foods: bread, chili, soup, cinnamon rolls, spaghetti sauce, canned fruits and veggies from my garden, etc).
Now when I eat processed or junk, my taste buds scream out "WAY TOO MUCH SUGAR and SALT".
No.....I don't get sick when I do the occasional fast/processed food thang'! Always had a rock solid intestinal tract.
Good luck!0 -
Haven't had pizza or fast food of any kind since December. Friday night I had one SMALL piece of "skating rink" pizza (still staying way under my calories for the day so what could it hurt right). Ummm, if I never see pizza again it will be too soon. Lesson learned.0
-
When I go for long stretches without having fast food, I find the same thing happens to me.
I had McDonald's a few weeks ago and it made me feel soooo sick for the rest of the day!0 -
I haven't had the same experience. When I skip something that I really enjoy for a long period time it generally tastes even better than how I remember it tasting. I pretty much feel awesome after enjoying a giant burger, coke, carne asada fries or whatever it is.0
-
I like these ( McGanbang ) I have about two a month, and I don't get sick at all. hhmmm might have to have one for dinner now.

sorry to hear about your digestive issues.0

I have the same reaction, Its not worth it at all. I cut out dairy 2 months ago to help with other health issues, and decided to have a small peice of pizza last week. Homemade pizza, whole wheat crust....instantly sick. Not doing it again.
I also find it doesn't taste good though. After cutting out baked goods/pop/fast food for awhile, its just not all that tasty when I do have it now.0 -

How do you make up for your lost nutrients without eating any dairy? I have been thinking about cutting out dairy myself but don't know how to go about it.0 -
It's probably a good thing that you feel sick when eating fast food now. Takes away any temptation. I feel the same. When I eat fast food I get nauseous.0
-
I don't really eat fast food anymore, but I still have pizza, burgers, and the like out. I just pick higher quality places where I know the food is "real". But I still enjoy a good slice (or two) of pizza or a big, juicy burger and fries.0
-
the only time i felt sick eating fast food after being off for so long is when I ate alot of it too fast....other than that, it still goes down nicely (mind you, doesn't taste the same as I remember it though).0
