If there is one thing that is irking me about being a regular MFP user it is the frequency that the same questions come around in the forum that have been answered ad-nausem and argued over and bickered about.

Can we get the search button lit up in red with a blinking border round it and a big arrow that says, "Look we have a search button"?

Lol and that applies to this topic as well.

It is my understanding that MFP does not discourage asking questions that have been posted before, so long as it is not posted across the board.

    Found it
"Please choose the most appropriate board or group for your post and post it once. Posting the same message to multiple boards or multiple groups is a form of spam. Please note that this is NOT a guideline against inadvertently posting a question another member has asked before. We explicitly allow members to post questions that have been asked previously by other members. If you see a member post a topic that you think has been asked before by another member, please respond politely or simply move on. However, the same member cannot ask the same question or post the same topic more than once."

They encourage you to ask questions here as everyone's situation is slightly different. The answers may turn out the same, but everyone has the right to ask about anything they want.

and this is coming from someone who has been here a MONTH?

LOL wait a few more years and THEN see how annoying you think it is....

I used to feel like you in my first few months, but then I realized the turnaround here is so fast, that most of those threads don't hang around long enough for anyone to see them, and even if they DID search, they are looking for answers tailored to THEM, not to the other hundred people who asked it...

I think half the people don't even stick around to see their own thread answers, much less the prior threads. Or they're on their phone. Does the search work on a phone?

BTW, does anyone have a Fitbit? (That's the thread I notice several times a day.)

lol My bad for not searching my own thread you are right. Part of the peeve is that I put up a couple of posts over the last few days that were searched and unanswered and they made it off the front few pages in minutes because of the same reposts

If I post another post myself about using the search will I create an Earth swallowing paradox? (Tell me Earth swallowing paradoxes have been discussed before  )

Bump! I wanted to complain about this too (and I'm new here!) Drives me up a wall. Then I thought I should use the function myself as I was SURE this had come up before.

This was the first thread that popped up. Can we pin/sticky this? Have a user agreement pop up before using the forums that explains the search function? Or the blinky lights that were suggested earlier?

It's frustrating that threads get bumped to page 120487240 so quickly because of the constant repeat threads!

    /rant (thanks for reading) :flowerforyou:
