I just started MFP - This is day 2 for me.. now im wondering it gave me 1200 calories a day-- but of course when i enter the excercise i do it gives me more-- should i eat more to get the number back up? or should i leave it?

if you are eating at 1200 that is generally a major defecit for most people. So I would suggest eating back the exercise calories and trying to keep your net at 1200 if you can.0

Oh Gosh. This is one of the BIGGEST debates on this site. Group 1 will say that you're using energy..your body won't run on nothing so you need to eat it back. Group 2 will say why would you eat it back? You just worked so hard to burn it. Group 3 will say that they eat some of it back, but not all of it. I usually eat mine back to be honest and I consistently lose weight (when I'm following the program)
It's all preference. No 2 people are the same. No 2 bodies are the same.

For me, I disregard how much more calories it's giving me on most days. Figure it will just help with quicker weight loss. HOwever, I know on those days that I want to have a few extra calories I can count on those exercise add ons. :-)0

My Opinion- Anytime you exercise you should replenish your body, eat. If you don't get enough nutrients to suppprt the extra workout, your body might horde fats/calories.. or burn muscles... or get dizzy, etc.

1 pound equals 3500 calories.
3500 divided by 7 days equals 500 calories per day. Our MFP daily number already has that 500 calories subtracted.
When we exercise, that green number goes up, because MFP expects us to eat back your exercise calories to keep your net daily calorie intake steady; that's how MFP works. Read this to learn more.

Just follow the MFP recommendations for healthy, steady and lasting results.
You could reduce quicker, but what would be the quality of that weight loss?
It could lead to increased muscle loss, and that stifles metabolism.
No, eat right, exercise - both cardio and resistance, lose weight in such a way that maintains health and preserves lean body mass which burns more calories at rest.

bobby is dead on...keep it light if your not active, eat extra if you burning heavily. Just try to make sure the food you eat is nutritious.0

I always eat some of them.. but not all of them... I find that if you DON'T increase your calorie intake with your exercise, your body thinks your starving and stops losing... Its worked for me... 5 1/2 months in ... 46 pounds lost....0

YOu should eat them back, mfp still is counting on the deficit you should have so you can lose 1,2 pounds a week (depending on you goal). If you dont eat what you need, your cortisol levels will raise (stress hormone) and you will lose more muscle and accumulate fat in your belly. Not always less is better! If you lose muscle weight YOU WILL gain the weight back because your metabolism will burn less calories while resting.0
