Hello MFPals,
I'm a 22 year old college senior (female) who lives in the dorm in the middle of a city and I need to lose 120lbs or roughly half my total body weight. *Edit: I was 240, I'm now 233.(7 pounds in 7 days might be bad for me, not sure) I don't live anywhere near any grocery stores or farmers markets and my college doesn't have a meal plan so I end up buying a lot of dried/frozen/packaged/canned foods and horde them in a bin under my bed and that's what I eat off of. I know from reading a lot of posts around this website that fresh fruits and veggies are the best to have (and I would kill to have them because I DO LOVE THEM) but I don't have the time or the money to keep catching a taxi to the grocery store. I do however have a CVS nearby but I don't really know how much that'll help as it sells much of the same packaged/frozen food I already have.
Some good food advice would be very much appriecated.
Some things I've already done to eat healthier are:
-cut out soda/coffee/energy drinks completely
-cut out ice cream/candy/cookies/sweets completely
-cut down cheese intake
-switched from bread to torillas (no sure if that's really healthier I just like torillas)
-drink more water
-started eating canned tuna
-drink light soy milk
But for meals I'm still eating things like hot pockets, kraft mac n' cheese, hot dogs, things I know aren't really healthy but they are all I have.
So I control how much of them I eat. As mentioned above I started these "healthier" habits last week when the summer semester began and this week I'm down 7 pounds. Ordinarily I'd think that's amazing but I was eating 1200 calories and exercising 700 of them away leaving a net of 400 per day. I realize now after reading around the website that that's a REALLY BAD idea (basically starving myself) so I retuned my MFP weightloss goal and my new calorie goal is 1700 which from what I've been reading is a healthier intake.
So anyone with any meal or food ideas would be really helpful. I drink Special K protien shakes wih breakfast but I'm really interesting in any other nutritional shake or smoothie ideas. Also can canned fruit be frozen?
