Hey all. So I can't figure out if I'm overtraining or not. I do cardio Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and I do srength Mondays and Thursdays. When I used to just workout on Monday, Wednesdays and Saturdays I felt fine, but now that I am doing 5 days a week I am feeling pretty tired and sore. I'm thinking i'ts either overtraining or a normal response to the workouts. I have trouble sleeping as well but i dont know if it's because I'm overtraining or if it's because my mattress sucks!

For those of you that work out 4+ days a week do you feel like this too?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

If your feeling tired and sore.. Take a day off then start again. Your body always need to rest it is very important. If your working sore muscles your going to hurt yourself..

I find I feel like this every once in a while (like this week). I typically work out 6 days/week, but this week I've only worked out 3 days so far. I was feeling really sore and tired. Sometimes your body needs a break. There's no shame in taking a day or two off!

Are you eating enough? I saw that your diary is open, but there wasn't any food logged there for the past few days. Feeling tired could be from the added workouts, not eating enough to fuel all those workouts, or both.

hard to say. how much are you exercising? how much of i is high intensity workouts (ie heavy weight, high impact) vs low intensity? how much are you eating?

If you are working out later in the day, try working out earlier.

Your food diary is public but empty.

Personally, I find fatigue and decreased performance to be a symptom of not eating enough to support the exercise. I routinely work out 4-5 days a week for a couple of hours a day and have slight soreness issues but no real fatigue.

i work out a lot, but am not tired. are you eating back your exercise calories? if you upped your workouts but didn't up your calories that is probably the culprit. also, if you are lifting make sure to get enough protein (or more than you think you should have).

do you get enough food/protein and sleep? I think a lot of people are running around with sleep debt, and calling it overtraining.

^ This. To generally state that you workout so many days a week means nothing. The intensity and variation of your workouts are what matter. Not to mention your level of hydration and caloric intake. (Basically, you need to provide more specific information to receive quality responses.)

now that I am doing 5 days a week I am feeling pretty tired and sore.

I've been doing cardio 4-5 mornings a week and strength training 4 nights a week. I feel sore in the mornings at times and really don't want to get out of bed but generally after I get up and do 30 minutes of cardio I feel great. Right now my calves are complaining a lot from yesterday's leg routine but I have plenty of energy and stamina. I'll probably do shoulders tonight. I'm highly motivated to do just that. Sounds great!

Make sure you're getting plenty of rest. Lack of sleep drags me down more than anything else. I can take feeling like my legs got worked over by a couple mafia thugs but being tired from lack of sleep really drains me physically and emotionally.

Only you can tell if you're overtraining.

If your lifts aren't moving, you're feeling anxious, blood pressure goes up, you start losing sleep, you're always tired, etc ..... Then you might be overtraining.
