When I first started here I to was set to 1200 cals. I exercised 5-6 days per week burning about 200-400 + cals each workout and most of the time not eating back the calories. I remember I would feel great about myself because I was still losing a lb a week or maybe 2. I am 5'2 start weight was 131 and I got down to 110-113 over a year I just had my daughter and was smaller than prebaby. After a year of mainting the weight on the "scale" My body needed more definition and I just couldn't figure it out. I was doing Jillian and other weight routines and lifting heavy my legs were starting to look great. Then something hit and I went on a binge for like 9 months off and on I just couldn't get back on track. I thought well if I buy this workout routine it would help me. I was so focused on I have to eat 1200 cals to lose this weight but I was actually harming myself int he process. I wasn't eating enough food for the amount of exercise I was doing. I shot up 15 lbs. I am proud to say that I bumped up my cals to 1400 and I am doing Chalean Extreme (which I love). It's my second week I actually haven't seen any progress yet but I know I will see more definition with eating more calories than 1200. I don't see how I did eat 1200 and I ate alot of processed foods. I still do every now and then. I would have a splurge day back when I was eating 1200 and the morning after my splurge day I would actually lose weight because my body needed the food. I knew I couldn't live on 1200 the rest of my life. I think partly why I went on a binge bc I couldn't eat the things I wanted to and was tired of a low calorie diet. I also remember that I would get a fuzzy feeling over me whenI was burning all those cals and not eating enough. Even when I exercised I would get fuzzy stupid me. Not anymore. I just want to let every know who are on 1200 cals and exercising like I did it may work for you now just think can you carry this on the rest of your life?

But you are not suppose to carry that on the rest of your life. Only until you hit your goal weight (or healthy weight). Then just up the calories each month a little until you hit your maintain calorie intake.

I actually started to up my cals. Most people do think this is a life long calorie goal. I am just saying this is my experience with eating low calorie it really wasn't fun for me. I did it for 2 years.

Glad you figured it out. 1200 calories is close to starvation and is not healthy for an extended period, no wonder you got fuzzy.

People need different calorie amounts when they lose wight, or change their activity. Caloric needs to maintain weight or lose it at a certain pace are not stagnant.

I also don't really believe people gain weight from eating too little. Not possible. If you start eating crap after eating too little, I can see how you would expect to gain.

1200 calories is not good forever for a lot of people, but it is for some and for others its a good number to lose weight. To maintain, the calories are often higher especially if you are tall or lift weights.

it just depends on the person, their eating, their activity level, and their goals. 1200 is a weight loss number for many, and a maintenance number for less.

Actually you can not lose after eating very little. I got down to 113 eating 1200 cals and it stopped I was burning to many cals to be eating that few of cals. I would have to drink a diet pop or something to keep me full.

Its great you found what worked for you. and nice guns! :)

Oh and read your response to me - well the littler you are the more important it is to eat close to your maintenance. Can't have a big deficit when you don't have a significant amount to lose. :)

Thank you I have worked for them, they used to be bigger ;). I am so thankful I eat more now. I was tired and crabby. Now I burn around 1800-2000 cals a week.

Food is good. I look forward to the days when I am highly active and burn more cals so I can enjoy more, and a variety of good and healthy foods. Athletes can (and should) eat a "lot"!

Yes I look forward to being able to have higher fat foods like peanut butter ;). I pretty much eat that every day protein adn a good filler. My husband is a mens basketball coach at a university here and I watch some of their practices and exercise routine and then see how much they eat. They can put away ha.
