I've just started as well (about 3 weeks in). I reviewed the BMI and used some of the tools to determine what my goals would be, then started logging in everything I ate and when I exercised. The food bit is hard, as I don't eat a lot of prepared foods (my husband cooks most things from scratch), so I just choose something that looks similar on the chart, or I create a "meal" by combining ingredients. However, I'm trying not to overthink it. The big piece is the accountability of having to record everything. You're much less likely to have that cookie if you know you're going to log it!
Hang in there...I've been exercising and eating about 1200-1300 cals/day (plus any exercise calories earned), and have lost NO weight, but have lost an inch on my waist and hips. Since the scale is discouraging, I'm only checking it once a week and am concentrating on how much better my clothes feel.
Good luck!0 -
I started a long time ago, but I do remember starting with exercise videos such as the first Biggest Loser one and Walk Away the Pounds. I started adding more fruits/veggies, water, and whole grains too.
Good luck! You can do it!0 -
It really depends where you're at right now. When I started I was already doing quite a bit of exercise, but my eating habits were pretty bad. I love carbs, especially sweets, and I vastly underestimated portions. For me the difference was in starting to weigh and measure everything, and shifting to more proteins and fewer carbs, plus making the carbs I do eat really count e.g. whole grains. I'm still working on getting to like vegetables. I didn't increase my exercise by a lot, but I now try to do at least 30 minutes every day.0

Hello and welcome to MFP!! This sight is very helpful and encouraging so keep on posting and you will get reply's! As for exercise: if you have NOT been doing anything just start walkin for 1/2 to 1 hr. and for eating just log ALL your food that you eat and watch how much carb, protiens and fat are being used! To be honest I do not eat "clean" but I log whatever I eat whether it was bad or not and I am not overweight but it keeps me in check! I exercise HARD six days a week and that does allow extra calories for "bad" food !t is always nice to read succes's when you need motivated and on here their are some very AWESOME weightloss's!!! I wish you the best!
