5k in the desert

My brother and I decided to sign up for our first 5k about a week ago. To make sure we celebrate this momentous occasion, we chose a race in Las Vegas (we're in Louisville, KY). To make it short, I have no idea how it feels to run in desert heat. The air here is so bad and so humid, so I'm wondering if it will be easier or harder to run in Las Vegas? Any advice is welcome!
