Help from ladies on birth control pills

To try and regulate my cycle my doctor wants me on the pill for 6 months. I have tried different types and doses but I always have the same problem. Sore breast! The first week is the only week I have no pain, the other 3 weeks hurt so bad I had to take pain meds just to make it through the day. Even walking hurts. I am having a really hard time keeping up with exercising because of the pain. I have really supportive bras but they don't help, if they are too snug they hurt me too.

Can you recommend any exercise I might be able to do that won't hurt? I wish I could try swimming but don't have access to a pool.

No YMCA or community access/member access pool near you to try? Otherwise - Yoga & Pilates would be my suggestions. Or there are other forms like the Mirena (IUD). I had it once but had a bad reaction after 18mos - a few friends have had it without any problems and love it. Hang in there - any movement is better than no movement!

Thank you! I used to do yoga as part of physical therapy for a back injury and loved it. I have always said I wanted to do it again. I guess now is a great time to start up again. As for the iud, I am not willing to try it since I will be doing IVF next year. I know the complications are low, but risk is still there. I just can't take the chance.

If a pill is giving you that many problems you need to keep trying I had to try more then 3 until I found a good one. You should never have to deal with side effects like that! Also just walk- it keeps you moving :)

As for your bra if they you are still that sore get a custom one. They are a bit pricy but I love them. Most bridal/ dress shops can measure you and order them :). Even if the soreness goes away I still love wearing them especially on my time of month.

    Best of luck!!

I would also recommend yoga. I have attended some yoga classes that are good for relaxing and stretching, and some that are actually hard workouts! There are lots of variations, and you could always choose a more relaxing class for days you are in more pain. If you can afford to join a nicer studio (if there is one in your area - I live in Vancouver BC and there are tons) then you will have a huge variety of classes available.

Alternately, if you have a gym membership, try using the bikes? I am blessed/cursed with small boobs so I don't find that a stationary bike causes much jiggle, but maybe give it a shot, especially a recumbent bike.

You’re on the wrong pill! You need to tell your doctor you’re having these side effects so they can have you try a different pill with slightly different levels of the hormones estrogen and progestin. There are so many different combinations and once you find the one that works for you, you should be symptom free. Good luck. : )

Check to see what the components of the various BCP he gave you are, there may be a common element in all of them that are making you have the reaction you are and you need a brand that doesn't contain that element. I was put on BCP to regulate my cycle and my hormone related severe depression. One Dr gave me a different pill type that contained testosterone instead of progesterone (the dr thought I shouldn't be on the same BCP for many years and needed to switch), I was sore, had acne like a teenage boy, and my depression turned to hostility and depression, when I went to a new Dr, told her what was happening, she checked the meds and my history and said that the problem was that the pill contained testosterone and that was why I was having all the problems. She told me to always make sure the formulation I was given contained progesterone and nothing else.

It sounds like I really need to try a different pill. I just assumed I would always have this problem since I have tried so many and always had the same problem. Thank you all for your advice!

I agree you need to try a different pill. I'm on a low-dose one and have no side effects. I switched after having major hormone induced mood swings and other problems on a "normal" dose pill.
