Did anyone see the BBC 1 programme "The Truth About Sports Products"? If not, try and catch it on BBC iPlayer. It was extremely interesting and scientists are saying that the advertising behind sports drinks, running shoes, protein supplements etc., is all just hype and that NONE of these products have a positive affect on how we perform in sports.

I did and thought it was very interesting. It was as we should expect, unsubstantiated claims by the big companies in order to get profit. I felt a bit smug about the drinks and shakes, never having bought any of them thinking they are just sugarey. But, I have been a sucker for expensive running shoes having fallen for all the hype in running mags and sites. No more, next pair of running shoes will be cheap and comfy.

I was quite shocked about the dangers over over hydration as a result of advertisers pushing the notion to drink fluid before you become thirsty.. It did make me wonder about the 'pressure' posters on this site exert when they exhort drinking water at all times. Me I shall stick with drinking only when I am thirsty and now feel reassured there is evidence to support what I have always done.
