Comfort eating

When I'm down I'm like many people I comfort eat and tonight is no exception. I've been really good with my food choices all week, got my motivation back regarding exercise, then my ex-husband to be throws a spanner in the works. There is a leaving do going on with work tonight as one of my work colleagues is emigrating to Australia and out of the 30 odd people in the office there are only 3 of us that aren't going, me (obviously) and the 2 others are nearing retirement and would rather stay in.
The reason I'm not going is that my ex, despite being given 2 weeks notice, decided yesterday that he wasn't going to help out and look after our son for the evening - the other people I asked already had other plans - and I know that he did it on purpose. So to try and take my mind off the fact that everyone was going out for a meal then on to pubs, generally having good night out, I took our son to our local Italian restaurant.
What bugs me - apart from my ex spoiling things for me (I have several words to describe him and what my feelings are, but better not say them on here!) - is that though I ate food laden with calories and fat, is that I didn't even enjoy it and came out feeling just as miserable as when I went in! Usually when I comfort eat I at least enjoy it.
Sorry, bit of a rant (a very polite version!) and feeling sorry for myself. So I'm now back home and watching iCarly followed by Rugrats (until my son goes to bed) with a bottle of wine and feel like crying my eyes out cos I'd got everything back on track. Then again the fact that I have to see him in court next week regarding the divorce may have something to do with how bad I feel too ( Sorry for going on.

Hi Nic
Sorry to hear about your divorce & that your night out has been spoilt
The divorce alone is bound to make you have highs & lows & with those come good & bad food choices.
Don't beat yourself up. Times are tough enough.
Enjoy your wine. Tomorrows a new day remember
Stay positive x0 -
Thanks. I must admit that the wine is making me feel a bit better and the Rugrats is nearly over so might get an action or thriller dvd to take my mind of it all.
We had been together for 21 years and it took me over 3 years to tell him in 2010 that I'd had enough. He just wants to get back at me and wanting to control me/my life like he did before and I'm so sick of it. He knew everyone was going and the smug satisfaction that he'll be feeling now really gets to me (polite version!).0 -
Work out. Tie a bunch of pillows together and start hitting it. (after your son go to sleep of course  ) Let all the frustration, anger, sadness, and whatever out. You burn calories and feel better.
I'm too happy of a person. I eat when I'm happy. I never have an appetite when I'm upset. When I'm sad/angry, I do things like walking/jogging, chores, etc. Burning calories make people happy. I think it releases some sort of chemical in your brain.
Try it. You'll be happier.0 -
I bought a punch bag earlier this year so I could let rip every time he wound me up, keep forgetting it's there though cos it's in the back room which I don't go into much. Anyway, I ended up having a good evening on Friday in the end, a combination of a good thriller and bottle of wine worked a treat. ;o)
However when the post arrived in the morning there were some documents from my ex's solicitor regarding the divorce and to say I was livid was an understatement. I was shaking with rage and trying to control myself in front of my son was extremely hard, especially as I really wanted to scream and throw things! I can now say that I do not eat when going through stress that is related to anger, I didn't eat anything for the rest of the day - well not until 7.00 when we had our evening meal.
After what happened yesterday, I feel a lot better now and not upset anymore. If I can go through that and stay in control, then there is hope for me yet - I just need to make sure I remind myself of that every time I feel like crap!0 -
Wow! 21 years. That's a long time. I've been with my fella 10 years, married for 5 & he does my fruit in after 5 years so God help me haha!
Your really brave. No point staying in an unhappy marriage. Especially a controlling one. You need to stay strong & show him exactly who is boss! & thats not him!
Hope your back on track
Stay positive - if anything keeps you going, remember & remind - your freeeeeeeee!!! Shout it out loud if you need to who needs men anyway xxx0
