I do not want to workout. :(

It's Friday afternoon and I brought my gym clothes to work with great intentions. I feel sleepy though and would love nothing more than to go home after the day is over. Is there any reason i should go workout today?

The gym sessions you go to when you really don't want to are the ones to be proud of.0

I have to talk myself into it very day. After you are glad you did.0

^^ He speaks the truth. I am always super proud of myself for going through with a workout I didn't want to do. You can do it!0 -
Reasons you want to work out today:
Exercise releases endorphins, which will give you a boost of good-mood juice.
You'll feel proud that you pushed yourself instead of making excuses.
You won't wake up tomorrow morning feeling guilty that you skipped a workout because you just didn't feel like it.
It's a great way to start the weekend.
It will give you enough energy to power through the rest of the evening.
It will get you to your goals just that much faster!0 -
Do you want to be in better shape? Why do you go work out at all? Answer those, if you have that answer, that is why.0
-
suck it up and DO IT.
you'll feel so much better after it's over.
you'll feel better about yourself for having gotten past a mental hurdle0 -
Yes you are right it's Friday afternoon and all you want to do it go home and flop on the couch. BEEN THERE! But maybe consider this... When I really don't want to workout, I bribe myself with a healthy treat or pampering session post-workout. Think of something you'd really like to do this evening and treat yourself to it after you complete a great workout!0

I find that the days i dont want to are usually the days I end up pushing myself harder and reach a new workout goal. Dont give up on yourself!0

It's only ONE day. Enjoy it.0

No, there isn't a reason that you should work out today.
If your body or mind doesn't feel like it then it's for a reason.
It sounds like you are more likely to injure yourself or stress your body.
Apologies for this radical concept, now back to the standard 'motivational' posts.0 -
Success at anything, fitness, health, career is all comprised of making the right choices and forming the right habits. It's not about how you feel on a friday afternoon. It's moments like this that represent the crossroads between great and mediocre!0

Go and workout, and if you're still dragging after ten minutes and don't want to be there, let yourself go home. It's how I've convinced myself to work out before, and usually once the ten minutes are up, I'm into it and ready to finish my workout. It's a good way to tell if you're really not physically up for working out, or just not in the right mental space.
I've left once because i really was bone-tired and working out wasn't helping. But I was proud of going for ten--and like others said earlier in this thread, the workouts you do when you're not sure you want to be there will be the ones you're the most proud of.0 -
I was exhausted when I left work and still went to the gym. Once there and into a few sets, I energized. Get your butt up and GO!0

JUST DO IT.
One phrase always sticks with.
You will never regret doing a workout.
You will regret not working out.0 -
You all bring up great points so I'm going to go. I did not go last night cause I was sore from my Brazilian butt workout from my class on Wednesday, so I need to go today.
Thank you all for being so awesome and for helping me see that I must continue moving forward!0 -

This is what I would do when I used to work 10 hours and then go to the gym. If I wanted to leave after 15 minutes I would allow myself. Never happened, I always wanted to stay and finish0 -

I understand what you're trying to say, but if your theory were really true, that "reason" is why I'm heavy.
I NEVER want to work out. Ever. When I get up and I just do it, I feel great!
There is never really a day I wake up and say, "Yes! Let's WORK OUT!"
I don't think it has anything to do with stress or injury; I'm just lazy.
You SHOULD work out because you will feel great after you do, you will feel accomplished and you can rest the rest of the evening. :bigsmile:0 -
If you don't go, you'll spend the whole night mad at yourself. GO!0

Yeah, listen to your body without questioning it at all...
...except that's likely what has led so many people to the problems they're trying to get out of now.
Let's try a different approach...let's listen to our bodies, but more thoroughly consider what it is we think our bodies are telling us...
Are you truly not yet recovered from your past workouts? Are you actually sleep-deprived? Is there some actual reason why you shouldn't go move at all? Then sure, take the extra rest. But if it's just a case of not *wanting* to because you're feeling lazy or because you're still trying to break a habit of inactivity, then it's probably a better idea to go and at least do something.
Or how about this...you don't have to break a record or set a PR in the gym, but at least go. If after a few minutes in the gym you still aren't feeling it, then pack up and head home.
EDIT: And now I read the rest of the replies and see that I'm saying nothing that hasn't already been said. Pfft. You'd think I'd learn to read through everything before posting...0 -
An hour from now, you will either feel great about yourself for having overcome "I don't want to" and accomplished a great workout, or you'll just continue feeling tired... I know what I would choose for you!0
-
When I feel like this I drink a good cup of coffee to wake me up and I find it gives me that boost of energy I need to get going...with some good music of course. It's Friday..don't you want to start your weekend feeling fabulous?0

I never and I mean NEVER WANT to exercise. If I went on that basis, as I have done for most of my life, I'd never do it -- and I pretty much didn't. Until I decided that what I wanted (to be pain free) was more important than my aversion to exercise. I have to treat it as a discipline and not even think about it, just do it. Cause if I ask myself if I want to, the answer will always be a resounding NO! So I take Agent K's advice and don't ask myself a question I don't want to know the answer to. ha ha! ) So if it's not even a question, then it's easier to just do it and get it over with. People keep telling me I'll learn to love it and be revved up and energized about it. 2 1/2 months in and I'm still just doing it out of discipline....seriously doubt a lifelong avoidance is EVER going to turn into any semblance of enthusiasm but I have to keep my eyes on the higher goal and prioritize that over my present discomfort and wishing to be doing almost anything else.0

Do as you want.
Why are you even asking?
You either want it or you dont. If you dont, go home, grab the cookies and ice cream, sit your butt on the couch and enjoy them.0 -
You will feel guilty and remorseful if you don't go...the only bad workout is a missed workout! Go do it! Then go home and relax! You will be glad you went!0

No ever says "I decided to workout today, and I totally regret that." But I know, I've skipped plenty and regreted that. lol You will feel better after you go!0
