what are some? My back has been bothering me alot lately and I haven't really done a lot of exercise this week. Okay about my back...... I was in a wreck in May (not my fault, someone pulled out in front of me), anyways, I went to the E.R. after the accident and said it was a back strain, noting really serious. I just need some exercises that I can do that are low impact.

  • I have two herniated discs that can cause some excruciating pain. I do the Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds or I will do a few of the Prevention walking DVD's. I also swim in the winter when I can't walk outside along with the walking DVD's. I walk my dog every day just to get out besides the DVD this is why I supplement swimming in the winter. Hope this helps. Back Pain can be horrible and you don't want to make it worse by doing something high impact or that isn't well tolerated.

thanks everyone, I do a lot of walking but I also have an exercise bike but find that it makes my back hurt, so I am trying to stay away from that. I don't have an elliptical and I don't go to the gym, stay at home mom and can't afford to.

Hi - I was in a car accident a couple of years ago too and have had problems with my back. I have found that pilates exercises are low impact, and have also really strengthed my core muscles, which in turn has really helped strengthen my back and helped with the pain. I'm no expert, but if riding your bike causes you back pain, doing some work on your core muscles might really help.

I also swim a lot, as this is good for core strength, but you do have to watch you are doing your strokes correctly or you can cause more trouble than you are fixing, especially if you get neck position wrong.

Love your new profile picture byt he way - looking good!

I don't know how to swim, I never learned how. I am kinda embarrassed to admit that. :blushing: Maybe one of these days I will take some swimming lessons. I will have to try the pilates, I have some pilates exercise dvds that I have never done yet. Thanks for the comment about my profile pic and saying that I am looking good. :flowerforyou:

Hello again – don’t be embarrassed about the swimming. I can only do one stroke, and it has taken me a long time to learn how to do it! My husband can’t swim at all either.

With the pilates start slowly. The exercises can sometimes be deceptively difficult. You are better off starting slowly rather than doing too much at once! It took a while before I noticed the difference in my back, but it really did help. Not only with core strength, but with posture etc as well, and it all makes such a difference.

Good luck! I hope your back feels better soon.

thanks I will take it easy on the pilates, don't want to over do it when I have a 2 year old son at home to take care of, then I have to pick my 4 year old daughter up at school.

I am feeling somewhat better with my back but the pain is still there a little bit. Yesterday, I strapped on my HRM, and chest strap and started walking back and forth thru my house and doing a few little intervals on my mini stepper, it was raining here and I could not walk outside. I got tired of not doing any exercise at all so I improvised. :flowerforyou:
