I have been a Water Aerobics instructor for fifteen years.I use the water jogging exercise. What it depends on is how physical your class is. If you have a class more suited to people with arthritis, you may want to put in half the time that you actually worked out. Remember, Water aerobics is different than working on land. Moving your body through the water creates an extra pressure to work out against . The harder you push yourself through the water, the more water your body diplaces. Water weighs approx. 8.8 lbs a gallon, so if you are really pushing yourself through the water you will burn more cals.!.The test for being in the proper cardio zone is not based on heart rate. It is difficullt to time your heart rate in the water and the max. number of beats per minute is lower because you are working out in water. I tell my class to do the talk test. If you can talk easily to your neighbor , you need to work a little harder. You should not be able to breath comfortably through your nose. Your exertion should cause you to breath through your mouth. If your class is set to music, you should be able to say the words to the song but not sing them. And... if you are gasping for air... slow down! Hope this helps!
  • Go into your diary and hit 'Add' then to 'cardiovascular' and then type in water. Water aerobics should be the first one that pops up :)
