What are you afraid of?

My mother has recently had her 5th knee operation and now has to be put in a home because of complications. It's a long story and I feel terribly for her. She has lost all her molbililty and independence and she's only 65 years old.
It's awful because a lot of her problems could've been prevented if she had taken better care of her body when she was younger. But she never got a handle on her emotional eating and rarely exercised.
The fear of becoming my mother has been one of my main motivaters through this journey.
I'm just curious...
what do you fear will happen to you if you don't lose the weight? Do any of these thoughts keep you up at night?

Mine would be to be another statistic of family issues... Both sides of my family have heart issues and stroke... I don't want to follow down that path. While I'm still young I am putting my health first... starting slow but getting there.0

I'm not afraid of too much for myself. I'm already pretty sick, and have been far sicker. Whatever the future throws at me I'm sure I will just roll with the punches. I mainly wanted to put my jeans back on lol.
But I also want to set an example for my kids, they deserve the very best start in life that they can get, and that means not thinking that chips are a good snack or that going to McDonalds is a normal thing instead of a treat. That veggies are not horrible and exercise is just as important as what they eat. And its up to their dad and I to set that example.0 -
Yes, but mostly because my knees hurt. Like your mother I have had two knee surgeries (I'm 61 years old). Both my parents had knee replacements. However, my knees hurt first, then came the weight, now it is just a vicious cycle. I had the knee lubrication last year which really helped for about six months. Cortisone shots also temporarily help.
Sometimes the fear of being completely immobile can be overwhelming. Right now I am using the knee pain as a motivation to keep eating properly.
As they say getting old is not for sissies:)0 -
I'm really sorry to hear about your Mum, and yes it does highlight how much what we do now will affect us later on in life, this became very clear to me with my parents, my Mum has smoked since she was 11, she is now almost 70, she had a stroke about 15 years ago and they were able to operate and she had virtually no side affects, the first thing she did when she was able to get up and walk around was to have another cigarette.....I find it hard to comprehend......thinking back to how miserable and depressed I was when I got to my heaviest is enough to keep me from going down that road again, but yes it is a HUGE fear, I can NEVER go back there, and having to literally work my *kitten* off and give up so much to get here almost 2 years later I couldn't go back! I am a food addict so I know I need to be on my own case for the rest of my life but I wouldn't turn back the clock for anything, the things I have learnt about myself have been worth every minute..:o)0
