When you read "don't drink your calories", what does that mean?

I think it means cutting out alcohol, soda and lattes.

What about things like protein smoothies?

Is it the *type* of nutrition, or is it the fact it is liquid?

It's the type, smoothies are fine. Don't drink your calories just means don't consume empty, nutrition-free calories like soda, juice (real fruit is better), etc. blending whey, milk, banana, etc is great, don't you worry. :)

I take it for example as in drinking calories like regular soda is 150 +/- calories, or sweet drinks (ice tea, alcohol, etc). Just my thoughts. I drink no calorie soda and stuff artificially sweetened (and I don't care how bad they are for me, I am fine with that, as I know folks here on the forum have issues with it) iced tea, iced coffee etc.
