NSV - First 5K and the value of encouragement

I just finished my first 5K race with a chip time of 28:17. Very happy! Placed ninth among the 45-49 year old males.

As I was finishing, a friend who had finished before me saw and shouted, "It's just around the corner! Push hard!" As soon as she said that, I realized I had been so focused on finishing that I didn't realize I had plenty left in my tank and was basically coasting that last mile. I sprinted to the end and beat my best practice time by two minutes.

That is one reason encouragement is so important, it pushes us to new levels of performance we do not think we are capable of.
