Does resting heart rate change when you are more active??

Hi, I bought a HRM back in February. At that time I was very inactive. My resting heart rate was 75.
Now when I put my HRM on and check my resting heart rate it never is below 90.
Is that normal? Do I need to readjust the HRM to 90 as my resting heart rate so I get a more accurate calculation during exercise?
I should mention that when I first set up the HRM I was a smoker (a pack a day)
I have quit smoking since then. I breath alot easier. My endurance has doubled. Can that be the reason? If so, should I readjust my HRM?

Like many things - its complicated.
My experience is that the fitter I become the lower my resting heart rate is but if I overstress my body out in the gym or going for a run my resting heart rate is higher (by 10's of beats per minute). The same is true if I get ill even before I come out with other symproms. After a while I've learned to use my resting heart rate to see if I am overdoing it - if it is high then I am doing to much and I need to lay off or else I can pick up a cold. My heart rate also goes up if I eat too much sugar or sweetener as well so you may be getting an effect like this.
HRMs are truly great for getting a good idea of what is going on in your body so good luck and happy monitoring0 -
Hmm, to my knowledge, your resting heart rate should decrease as you become more physically fit. Like, athletes even have resting HRs in the 40s sometimes. I don't know much about HRMs though so I can't answer your questions about that.0

^^Yes! If my body is under stress from overtraining, or an injury, or medication, or I'm not sleeping well, my resting HR is significantly higher than when I am my regular happy self.
I've been on some meds lately that have caused my HR to be VERY high. To the point where when my HR is now at numbers while walking that it used to be jogging.0
