Hello all,
i have a question..my dietitian told me that I could have frozen yogurt or ice cream in my diet. She suggested low fat instead of fat free because there are less additives, but now I am reading full fat may be better? What are others' opinions?

If you don't eat/don't like these please don't lecture me on eating them, I use them and Greek Yogurt as my calcium along with calcium supplements :)

I love a bit of ice cream once in awhile, and I usually go for the regular Breyers. Their Natural Vanilla is just that, has only 5 ingredients and is so delicious! Top it with a little chocolate or caramel, or fresh fruit - delicious! Vanilla ice cream & fresh peaches is one of my favorite summer treats!

I'd much rather eat a serving of natural ice cream than the low fat or sugar free stuff that has more additives.

I eat frozen yogurt bars on a regular basis. They are made by Yasso. I would say that you need some fat during your day and that some non-fat items have more salt or sugar in place of the fat. Read the labels and consider what is a good compromise to help keep you under your cal goal for the day.

I definitely vote for real ice cream over low fat. I also like frozen Greek yogurt. Healthy choice makes yummy little single serving cups. And a new love of mine is fresh raspberries with whipped cream and sometimes a drizzle of chocolate. No ice cream needed, and it's delish!

TCBY has an amazing Toffee Crunch frozen yogurt. Greek frozen yogurt is also very good. I usually will grab some fudge bars and eat those they have 110 cals per bar and calm my sweet cravings. Either way read the labels and find what is best for you and your dietary needs. Good luck in your journey!!:flowerforyou:
  • I found the TCBY classic vanilla sandwiches to be really good. It really hits the spot when you want a cold treat. I really dont feel like I'm missing anything. Ive tried their toffee/caramel .5 gallons but thats too rich for me, but they have other flavors that I'd like to try.

What happens with stuff that is fat free or sugar free is they always add extra stuff to make up for the taste. More sodium or sugar alcohol. I personally think low fat is better then fat free. If you have to choose pick frozen yogurt or over ice cream or just make your own that way you know what you put in it.

I eat ice cream too just not everyday, I work it into my calories on the weekends. I like edy's slow churned, it is reduced fat but tastes like regular to me.

Any product is made up of fat, protein, carbs, water, air and fibre. If it's low fat it will be proportionally more of one of the others. To make it taste the same or have the same "mouth feel" a variety of additives like gums may be used.

Last night I had frozen yoghurt made from 10% fat greek yoghurt, raspberries and a bit of double cream. Yum. Made it in an ice cream maker but a glass bowl and a freezer are as effective if not more so.
