New Molson Canadian 67 Weighs In as Canada's Lowest Calorie Beer

Custom brewing process yields a hybrid light beer that combines
flavour with lightness
TORONTO, Oct. 5 /CNW/ - Just because you're living an active lifestyle doesn't mean you have to give up beer. Molson has introduced Molson Canadian 67, a great tasting specially brewed light beer with only 67 calories per bottle - making it the lowest calorie beer in Canada. That's about half the calories of a glass of wine or a single mixed drink and one-third fewer calories than light beer.

"As more health-oriented Canadians take a calorie-conscious approach to their eating habits, they now have a beer choice that fits with this lifestyle," says Stephanie DeSutter, Senior Brand Manager, Molson Canadian. "Molson Canadian 67 lets men and women enjoy a great tasting beer with a calorie count they can feel good about."

Education around calorie consumption is becoming increasingly important to Canadians. According to a recent independent sample of nearly 2,000 light beer drinkers across Canada conducted by Molson Coors Canada, 61 per cent of consumers said that calories are an important consideration to them when it comes to choosing alcoholic beverages. However, only 39 per cent said that they always or sometimes know what the calorie content is of the beer that they consume.

With only 67 calories, here's how Molson Canadian 67 stacks up, calorie-wise, against other popular drinks:

- A glass of chardonnay can have up to 140 calories
- A glass of shiraz can have up to 136 calories
- A Caesar has about 150 calories
- A gin/vodka & tonic has 180 calories
- A rum & Coke has 192 calories
- A vodka cranberry has 213 calories
- A Manhattan has 194 calories
- A vodka martini has 130 calories
Molson Canadian 67 is specially brewed for Canadian beer tastes by blending two-row malted barley, a touch of wheat, and a triple hopping method using four different varieties of hops. The result is a light beer with rich colour, creamy foam, and the clean flavour you expect from other light beers with only two-thirds the calories.

"Molson Canadian 67 is Canada's first hybrid light beer, combining flavour and lightness. Now Canadians can have their beer and drink it too," says DeSutter. "Molson Canadian 67 can be an ideal partner for those that enjoy a casual beer after a run, a game or hitting the gym. Post activity or out socializing, it makes the ideal wingman."

Molson Canadian 67 is now available at select retailers and accounts across Ontario and Atlantic Canada. It will be available nationally by the end of November. Currently in Ontario, the 12-pack retails for $19.95 and the six-pack, available only at the LCBO, retails for $9.95.

They have a 64 calorie beer here in the states, and the kicker is that it has half the alcohol content as the same size regular light beer. Therefore, you have to drink twice as many beers to get the effects! :grumble: I bet it about equals out in the end...but if you drink beer just for the sake of drinking beer, it would be an excellent choice.
  • Hockey season just got better  Thanks for the news.

67 calories or 200 calories in a beer.
Alcohol will still slow down your weight loss.

Give me a pint of Guinness and all will be well.

Thumper's right, it's not so much the calories in beer that kills you, it's that alcohol is pretty invasive to the body, it kind of takes over and screws up the metabolism while it's present in the blood. While drinking 3 or 4 beers (or wines or anything else) won't totally screw up your life (calorie wise at least, other bad decisions may do that), it's not something to make a habit of if you want to focus on being healthy.

And mrd232 is on to something, by the way Guinness isn't all that bad calorie wise. A pint of Guinness is 210 calories, and considering it's a heavier beer, that generally takes people longer to drink, it's far more satisfying (IMHO) than a light beer. Although I prefer Murphy's to Guinness, they're both good.

Have I told you how awesome you are today?? Lol!
Listen to the nice lady! Murphy's is also good, it doesn't use so much barley so it has a little less of a 'burnt' flavor.

I'm a Lindeman's/Chimay fan myself. Hard to drink more than one beer when they cost 10-16$ a bottle  Beer is something I won't skimp on. I don't drink to get drunk, I drink because its a treat and I like how it tastes. Worked too long at a beer distributor to do otherwise. I've seen more beer than anyone should ever have to see.

That's about the same as me. I don't skimp on good beer and usually enjoy one per week or a couple small glasses of wine. I make it a goal of mine to try new microbrews at local restaurants or pick up a new variety pack at the local Wegmans on occasion.
