Question about soda...

When people say they quit drinking soda and lost a lot of weight, I assume they're talking about regular soda? I know diet soda is still bad for you but I don't drink regular soda anymore and if I do go out and want one, I get diet. So are they talking about just regular soda because of all the calories or all soda for some other reason?

Thanks!

I have no idea, but I will tell you this. I drink a LOT of it, and switching to diet coke instead of regular a few months back didn't make any difference on the scale for me.

My sister said she lost 30lbs in a year when she switched but it didn't work for me.

I don't cringe about doing my food journal now though lol.

Soda dehydrates you - dehydration means your body works slower and burns fat slower. I used to drink it loads but once I stopped, more because of stomach aches, a few weeks later I lost the craving completely. If you can't live without it make up for it by drinking more water. I don't recommend drinking tons of it or quitting it completely either if you really enjoy it. Moderation ;)
  • A can a day is fine. There is no evidence that suggests aspartame will do you any harm. And it wont really affect your weight loss goals if kept in moderation.

People that say they lost a ton of weight after doing a single thing (such as stopping drinking soda) usually made other changes as well that may or may not have had an even larger effect.

Soda isn't good for you. If you can cut it out, do so. If you can cut down on it, do so. But don't expect that it'll necessarily make a drastic difference in your weight loss.

I don't believe Diet Pop will do much unless you have an intolerance to something in it that causes bloating. I've never had the problem.

I've never experienced being dehydrated due to pop... if you aren't replacing water with pop your fine. There isn't enough sodium in a can or glass to stop weight loss and if you drink enough water it won't dehydrate you.
