Contraception and Weight Loss

Hey guys, I've seen a couple of posts about this over the last few days and I've been wondering your thoughts on it...

Does the contraceptive pill hinder weight loss? I know that one of its listed side effects are "weigh gain/loss" but I've never really worried about it until I began to diet and work out.

Edit: I'm talking about the hormonal pill Microgynon in particular, if that helps at all.

I have microgynon as well and when I started on it, I gained about a pound at most.
With me it doesn't have that much effect, but my GP did say that it varies from one person to the other.

If you do a search online, you can find a great deal of reputable sources that say the whole "the pill causes weight gain" is a myth...at most what it will do is cause you to retain water. The myth comes from the fact that the very first b.c. pill that came out in the 60s actually did cause women to gain weight, b/c it had much larger doses of hormones than b.c. pills do today. Pharmaceutical companies have to list weight gain in the possible side effects, even though it doesn't happen, because if they didn't someone who thought they had gained weight using their product could sue them. I had this same concern a while back, but I did the research and I realized that my weight gain came from eating poorly, stress, and having an inactive lifestyle, not from the b.c pill I'm taking.
