newb from houston

29/m from Houston looking to shed a few and get more defined. i've never tracked calories before so i am going to give it a shot. i am currently 225 looking to get closer to 200 before i start working on shape and sculpting. my buddy and i work out together 4 times a week. 3 of those times we start our workout with 1hr30min of intense racquetball but i just don't think it's helping. honestly, recently it seems we have seen a lot of heavier people playing. hope that does not sound rude, but i am just wondering if it really is a good weight busting workout.

always interested in new ideas. don't be shy to say hi... i will be posting a lot more on here as i go. thanks!

I've come to realize, the exercise isn't the issue as much as dietary intake. Good luck from a fellow Houstonian.

Ditto...I can workout myself out until I'm drenched in sweat but if I'm eating over my calorie goal it won't make that big of a difference. Plus, some people use working out as an excuse to eat higher calorie foods (I just worked out for 2 hours, I deserve it!) but they really haven't burned as many calories as they think. So, good luck with your tracking!

Is wanting to lose 40 lbs by November unrealistic?

i am in no way an expert but if you work extremely hard, 2 lbs per week is realistic. i am actually trying for a rapid 3 lbs per week but i plan on changing diet and working out intensly 4-5 days a week (hoping for no injuries). i am assuming you have an even in november that you have a goal for. best advice i can give you is start today and only focus on today. then tomorrow when you wake up, focus on tomorrow. keep doing that. if you look far ahead it's scary and seems unrealistic. once you get to the 10lb mark you're going to notice a big difference, love what you see, and that will be huge motivation to keep going.

Yes getting married in November. I have a tough time sticking too a "diet" so I'm trying to not look at it that way. Thanks for your input!
  • diets suck... they are no fun... i tend not to stick with one program. i just prefer to watch what i eat, try to make good decisions, and sweat as much off in the gym as possible. i don't live a lifestyle that i can preplan my meals a lot so diets never work for me. keep at it!!
