Gatorade AND BMR (two unrelated questions)

#1 - Gatorade
Is drinking Gatorade after a workout better than drinking water? The commercials say it gives you back electrolytes, but is it really any better? I find that I do feel better drinking some after I exercise and I just started this behavior/ritual recently. It's not very high in calories, but it really has no nutrition. Is it worth it?
#2 - BMR
I have been using a heart rate monitor during my workouts. I heard that you need to subtract the amount of calories you would have naturally burned from the result on the monitor. If it says you burnt 600 calories, you would have burnt X amount just sitting on your butt. So you subtract X from that number for a more accurate number. Now my question is how to you discover X?
My BMR is 1560. So should I divide that number by 24 so I can subtract that amount from a one hour workout? Or should I divide it by the number of hours I'm awake because you don't burn as much when you sleep? I'm probably thinking about this too much, but I'm very analytical.

I've been training for a marathon for the past few months and our coaches have us drink gatorade every hour or so to help us replace electrolytes so we can keep running. We never drink after the workouts, usually they tell us to make sure to eat protein within 30 mins of finishing.
also from my understanding BMR is the number you'd burn if you slept all day so i'm pretty sure dividing by 24 is a safe bet.

Depending on how I feel after a work out, I'll have 8 oz of Gatorade.
i always keep some nearby. If I start getting a craving for a Mt Dew i'll drink Gatorade to help make it go away.0
