Full Fat Dairy

Just curious to hear everyone's opinions on full fat dairy.
Personally, I am a big fan. I drink a cup of whole milk every night before bed, and I believe it helps me sleep well, and has made my fingernails stronger. (They always tore and peeled before I started my nightly milk routine.) Plus I love it. It's important enough to me that I save the calories for it every single day.
I eat the full fat versions of ice cream, sour cream, and cheeses as well. I would prefer to have less of the full fat variety, rather than more of a reduced fat version. The difference in taste is significant enough for me to make these choices.
What are your thoughts?

Full fat in moderation is soooooo good!0

We get raw milk from a local dairy farmer and it is awesome. It is very nutritious wholesome and we make our own yogurt, ice cream, etc. I usually use the dairy products in my breakfast, either yogurt or milk.0

I've been eating the lower fat variety of many things for years (like milk, sour cream and cheese) i do enjoy and prefer a few full fat items. I have tried and just don't like fat free flavored creamer. I also prefer full fat salad dressings like blue cheese and ranch, i'm just careful about using the correct serving sizes. I don't eat them every day (the creamer i do). But I'll say here what I said in another post.... Most of us are here on this journey to get a healthy and happy life. If full fat milk makes you happy then you should drink it. If we sacrificed everything we loved for diet it would be harder to stick to.0

I kinda mix it up...full fat,low fat and fat free products0

I do too and I reached my goal. Tastes so much better.
A British study tracked 2 groups: Full fat dairy Group #1 and Low fat Group #2 but same calories per day for both groups. They measured the fat content in the stool and noticed the Full Fat group pooped most of the fat out and the body didn't absorb more fat than group #2.
I do notice on days that I do consume, I go to the bathroom more often. Ahem, number 2s.0 -
Oh and almost every day I have full fat creamer0
-
Amen sister. I commend you0

I love full fat cheese, I tried the low fat cheese, it went off really fast and had a rubbery taste to it.0

I full fat!0

The only dairy in my fridge that isn't full fat is milk -- we just prefer skim on our cereal. I use half and half in my coffee, love sour cream, and at any one time have 5-10 variety of cheeses in my fridge, none low fat. I just hate the taste of light cheese.0
-
I sooooooooooo agree with you, OP . . . . I use all full-fat dairy, and I save my calories for it. The taste is so worth it!0

I drink whole milk in the mornings because it TASTES GOOD. I used to never drink milk cause 1% and 2% are white water.. and I've cut enough fat and calories out of other parts of my diet to allow for it.
Plus as a food scientist, everyone freaks about about WHOLE milk like it's heavy cream or something.. it's 3.5-4% fat.. barely twice that of 2 percent. Only 8 grams per serving, versus 30g plus for a candy bar?? I can't drink whole milk, but i'll eat a snickers. WTF?
and milk is GOOD FOR YOU.
(oh man and person above me mentioned cheese.. dont take away my cheese for the love of God).0 -
Used to be skim milk or semi skim milk, and the whole low fat rubbish, I now have full fat and normal full fat cheese although my greek yoghurt is 0% or it would push my calories way up with the amount I have.0
-
I don't drink cow's milk anymore...makes me feel kinda gross, lol. I drink almond milk instead.
However, I am not lactose intolerant. I eat full fat cheese, half-fat sour cream and non-fat plain Greek yogurt.
Because I'm a rebel. :smokin:
(Nah, I just like the tastes of those three things. But there's nothing wrong with full-fat either.)0 -
fat free cheese is nasty.0

I eat some full fat dairy. I prefer skim milk to whole milk, but only because I now find that whole milk is just too 'rich' for me. But I usually eat full fat cheese. I try to keep my sodium low and have found that reduced fat cheese usually has higher sodium than full fat. So I usually try and find the one with the lowest amount of sodium. I can't really tell a difference in light sour cream and light cream cheese when compared to the full fat version.0

I was just wondering about this today. Bumping0

We've been drinking whole milk since our oldest daughter started on it, almost three years ago. We've never done low fat yogurt or cheese. It hasn't hurt my weight loss and it's delicious.0

I dont use full fat milk just because I was brought up on 2% but I do use full fat cheese, cream in my coffee ect.
Im new at this but a lot of the low fat products dont taste good so Im less likely to stay on my diet if Im eating things I dont like rather than moderate the things that I do like. I just account for it and enjoy the simple pleasure of cream in my coffee0 -
I guess I'm weird, but I prefer skim milk over full fat. i was raised on skim milk, and that's just what tastes right to me. I have nothing against full fat milk, except that it tastes really thick, so I don't want to drink as much of it.
As for yogurt, I'm pretty weird in that regard as well. I do not have very discerning tastebuds, so I can't tell the difference between fat free and full fat yogurt. I figure I might as well save the calories for something that i can actually taste, so I get fat free yogurt.
For cheese, i go with low fat stuff, which I can't tell apart from full fat. I stay clear of fat free cheese though. I can't tell the difference between fat free cheese and regular cheese when I taste it plain, but trying to cook with the fat free stuff is a nightmare.0 -
I've always been a fan of full fat everything... recently shifted to low fat milk and almost no cheese... but I definitely agree the full fat versions are MUCH better!!0
-
I drink 1% milk, and consume low-fat sour cream and cottage cheese. I eat regular ice cream and cheese.
I like the taste of the low fat milk and sour cream now, and don't eat a ton of the other stuff to worry about the fat.0 -
I go with full fat in most things, but half fat in some. I HATE fat free!! Fat free yogurt is like eating nothing. Low fat cheese is the weirdest texture (Except PC brand 25% less fat havarti, it's still really good. Also still 80 cals a slice!), and low fat ice cream I just can't be bothered with. If you're going to do it wrong, do it right!0

You must not live in Ontario - the sale of raw milk is illegal here. Big court fight over it and the farmer lost, just last year.
I've tried raw milk, but I've been drinking the pasteurized stuff for so long, I didn't like the taste. A bit too close to nature for me.0 -
We eat a mix of full and low fat, depending on taste and price of the individual item. So far so good with the weight loss, I don't think my choice to eat the low fat babybel and full fat fresh mozzarella is killing me.0

This! Nothing like straight from the cow0 -
I eat low fat dairy to help me stay under my calories but for other reduced fat items, like salad dressing, I try not to eat items that have added sugar.0

We are in Virginia. We had to sign like an 8 page contract which basically made us part owners of a cow to be able to drink it. We are paying for the service of milking and feeding the cow.0 -
I can't drink full-fat milk because I was brought up on 2%, so full fat feels too creamy for me. Though I don't notice much of a difference in full-fat and low-fat cheeses and other dairy products so I prefer them.0

I drink what we call medium milk here which is 1.5%. I drink so much milk that I found my stomach got a little sensitive with the full fat variety (Though might be time to yry it again) But I love the full fat milk and always have full fat latte's! All my other dairy are always full fat.0
