I need help picking protein

Ok so I found a recipe on here for a protein shake I really wanted to try. (My parents got me a blender for my birthday for the occassion even). So stupid me I go to walmart and get a small jar of protein powder for a few reasons. 1) I was on a budget and the small jar was $10 vs $20 for the big. 2) I wasn't sure I was going to like it and didn't want to buy a lot to throw away or force myself to use. But there was only one option for me to get a $10 jar of protein powder and I never stopped to check the nutrional value.
So this recipe I found was supposed to be around 185 cals and with my stupid powder comes out to around 285 cals. Which I am fully aware every brand will be different but man I am smackin myself for that one! I honestly don't remember the brand but it's a soy protein. Is soy or whey or whatever any better than other kinds? If so why? And what brands do you use? I'd love some input on what brands to try and to know the nutrional content.
I got on GNC's website and I saw they have designer whey protein which I have seen mentioned alot. I even know some people who use unjury but there isn't a store around here I can buy it from and I'd like to skip cost of shipping if at all possible.

I've been doing some protein powder research myself. Haven't come up with the right low cal/price combination yet, but drugstore.com and vitacost.com seem to have good prices that make up for shipping costs. Someone else recommended bodybuilding.com. Amazon also carries protein powders, and depending on what you order, there's free shipping on orders over $25.

I have been doing some research too but it's so overwhelming!! And if I could get free shipping I would be ok with ordering. I'm just so confused all of a sudden.0
