Fat Burning Around Your Waist

Hi, I've just started dieting again, have about 39lbs out of 45lbs left to lose. I am very apple shaped, so my waist is 2 dress sizes above my hips. I used to run and have just started again using an interval training plan, so that will help with my weight loss, along with lots of walking that I do and activities with my horses, but I want to do some exercising which will specifically target my waist and target it hard.

Can anyone help with what sorts of exercises I should do, reps and how regularly please?

Have you tried hula hooping with a weight hoop?? You will need to do other things alongside this, but i find it great for trimming, toning and defining your waist, hurts to start with but build it up slowly and youll soon notice a difference

just make sure you get a big enough hoop with one edge on the floor the other should hit you hip bone
the bigger it is the easier you will find it to actually hoop
heavier means you will have to give it more energy to keep it up ( but it will hurt more initially - you may find bruising with any hoop but this will go away as you get the rhythm) but you can do less other stuff with a heavy hoop -i.e. it's more difficult to use for spinning on your arms/ hands

i teach hula hoop classes and so many people say they can't do it and never dould until i hand them and adult hoop.
you won't be able to do it with a kids hoop.

if yo cant find an adult hoop make one with water or gas pipe a bit of dowel or a hose connector and tape!

    hope this helps
have fun and enjoy hooping. if you need help there are loads of great you tube videos.

You can't actually target where to burn fat from though, it will come from wherever your body chooses to take it from.

Ok, but surely you can tone and make smaller a certain part of your body as you also lose weight?

    thanks lacewitch!

Sure....but you can loose x pounds without loosing an inch at your waist.....ok, just if its realy mean, hehehe.
But it is possible to loose at your face, legs, arms even before you loose at your waist. Your body says where he wants to loose, its not your choice ;)

If you're doing pure cardio knock it off and add some strength training to your routine. This won't specifically target your waist (nothing can), but it will help you preserve muscle as you lose weight so that you lose more pure fat. You will lose POUNDS more slowly, but you should notice a difference in appearance more quickly than with pure cardio alone. :) Good luck.

Targeting your waist is a waste of time. General fitness and diet will do it. Usually, sadly, the problem areas are the last to go. You can't spot reduce. Yes, you can build muscle in a certain area, but it won't show until the fat is gone and the muscle is showing. That's especially true for the Ab section of your body.

No waist specific exercise will cause fat to be specifically burned from the waist. The burned fat will come from all over your body the same as it would from any calorie burning exercise.

If you want to tone, just continue exercising (ideally doing some resistance training too) while eating at a calorie defecit. Eventually the fat around your waste will get burned off as you body continues to burn fat.

If spot-exercise worked, I would have never had a fat face and double chin from all the talking and chewing I do!

Do you happen to enjoy sports? I get a good ab workout from batting practice. And yes weight training does wonders.

No, you can't make a certain part of your body smaller - at least you can't choose which part of your body becomes smaller by burning fat. That's spot reducing, which can't be done. "Toning" - it depends what you mean. People usually use that word to either mean getting slimmer (aka spot reducing - not possible) or getting more muscle definition. More muscle definition comes from losing the fat to reveal the muscles, or from making the muscles bigger.

Your ticker says you have 39 lbs to go - that's a lot of scope for losing around your waist. I do feel for you - I'm apple shaped too, and my waist/abdomen definitely stores more fat than elsewhere. Just got to keep eating at a deficit and lose the fat. Strength training of your whole body will help with reducing fat too.

You cannot spot reduce any area of the body with exercise. Body fat is lost systematically, meaning if you lose 1%, then it's lost equally all over the body. Your genetics will dictate where the fat comes off last, and if you're apple shaped, it's usually going to come off the waist area last.
But continually fat loss will dramatically reduce the size if you're consistent. Any ab exercises will condition the muscles so you don't have to just do certain ones to achieve a stronger midsection.

Everyone who says you cannot target a spot on your body to make smaller or lose fat from is correct. Pretty much with all of the weight I've lost, I still get asked if I'm pregnant. None of it has visibly gone from my waist. It's the last to go, unfortunately. Oh, and I've never been pregnant before.
