HRM vs. a Pedometer

Which one should I use? or should i use both? I walk around at work a lot therefore I want to keep track of how much I burn here. Tips please!! BTW I am already using a pedometer. It works fairly well. Not the best of ones but it gives me a good idea and I had to enter my stride in it as well and it shows calories I burned. Yet I dont know much about HRM. Thanks!! :flowerforyou:

HRMs are good for calorie burns only. If you're using a polar, make sure it's one that measures energy expenditure accurately (there has been some problems with the women's models in the past being up to 33% off.

Pedometer...They don't know what muscles you're flexing or how hard your walking or if you're lifting something, what muscles are engaged or what your heart rate is etc...so keep that in mind too.

A HRM isn't meant to be used as an all the time tool. It should be used when exercising to help you know how many calories you're burning.

If you walk around a lot at your job I would make sure that you have the right normal activities set under your settings button.

For walking around I'd use a pedometer. HRM's are designed to estimate calories at elevated heart rates. They're all just estimates. A Fitbit is a nice tool/pedometer.
