Hi,
I am new to this program but love it! Most days I don't eat enough times in a day to get all my calories. I am also in my early 50's with low metabolism, lots of stress and post-menopausal. Help...the menopot has hit and I hate it. Please share.
Thanks.

Welcome! I'm not postmenopausal, but I do get PMS....for some reason since I've started my healthy eating patterns, I haven't been craving A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G bad like I used to. It's very odd.

Get this...okay...I'm about to complete my 1st week of eating like this....and tonight, at work...someone had 3 boxes of Peterbrooke chocolates sitting out. I looked at them and wanted them so bad, so to squash that desire, I had brought cherry tomatoes and bit into them and sucked the juice out. Ahhhhhhh.....how SWEET they are....I ate each one slowly and savored the taste....it completely took care of my sweet tooth...and I am a chocolate freak....

My metabolism has been so low before I started this health eating regime, that I was put on a 1400 to 1450 cal intake daily. I've been so faithful with it....and within the 1st 4 days, I can tell my metabolism has changed....after working a 12 hour shift at the hospital, I come home and walk around the house looking for more things to do....when before...shoooot....I was in the shower and passed out in the bed about 15 minutes after walking through the door...and then stay tired ALL DAY LONG. It didn't matter how much sleep I got....NOW? Eating a lot of fresh fruits, veggies....good foods....and BAM...I'm starting to feel like a new person. It's no less than amazing!

    Hope that helps!

Regular exercise is a must if you have stress. It will calm you and give you energy. But you have to give your body the nutrition it needs.

You will only feel better when you treat yourself well.

  • thanks....I'll have to try the tomatoes. I still can't get rid of the chocolate craving. Although I found eating Ghirdelli Dark Chocolate chips helps and they only have 5 calories each!

    Hi Blythe,

I totally agree with Cheryl...I'm in my 50's, menopausal and hypothyroid (officially) and exercise IS the key. Do I like doing it? NOPE Do I feel better after? YUP. I think I'm addicted to the endorphins a good workout provides. There are also some great supplements out there that combat some of the more undesireable symptoms of Menopause. Stress just seems to be a symptom of Life so I ignore it for the most part...and again the endorphins provided by exercise helps with the stress levels.

A very dear friend of mine has a mantra that I am going to share with you....it goes something like this...
"If you want it, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse." In this case it means that you are able to go and find yourself an excuse to feel better....its definitely DO-ABLE!

Good Luck! and hope to see you posting on the boards....YOU CAN DO IT!!!

*Addendum: Oh and as for not eating enough...being hypothyroid I could care less if i eat or not. If I go too long I get the shakes which isn't ideal...so I basically eat by the clock...3 meals and 3 snacks.
