Nsv ... Distance

So the first time I rode a bike I seriously struggled to ride a mile... I thought I was going to DIE!
yesterday I rode 15 miles in 2 hrs... Not quite my best time (best for that trail was 1.25 hrs...) But it was hot and very humid and I'm recovering from both knee and ankle injuries and I did a four + mile hike that morning...
The nsv for me is that I have learned that I can't compare 35 year old 270# me to 16 year old 180# me and beat myself up for what I can't do... The fact is I can only realistically compare myself to when I started this journey...
So the first time I did humpback rocks (0.8 miles with 1200 feet elevation gain) it took me six hours and I couldn't walk for three days afterwards... I did this hike and then completed the loop that made it about 4.5 miles and then went and did 15 miles by bike... And I'm going to work tonight and I'm not dying because of pain...
I'd call that a nsv

and I wanted to point out that six miles... is a LOT more than NO miles be proud of yourself!0 -
Congrats! Most of my NSV's seem to be around distances and endurance as it's so easy to set targets and really push to smash them. Good luck going further, faster, harder and eventually beating your youthful exuberance!0

A good thing to remember is the saying (I don't know where it comes from): Wherever you are is where you are.
This always reminds me to work from where I am and not from where I think I should be. I can then think forward and set small goals which will allow me to progress going forward.
Hope this of some use to you.0 -
