I work in a very busy restaurant/bar where we have staff meals provided, only trouble is this usually means very greasy chips or pasta covered in cream....no idea what the calorie content looks like but I'm sure it's not conducive to weightloss! I'm loathe to give up on one of my favourite perks of the job and take my own food in bit I'm stuck as to another option. Anyone been in this situation or have any ideas/suggestion?

Sometimes giving up this perk might be the way to go. Pretty sure you get these same sort of perks at fast food restaurants and you wouldn't eat there everyday lol, I know I wouldn't.
I am pretty sure that a restaurant would at least have one salad dish. If not, you might just have to bring your own food in. Don't go for something just because it's there.0 -
I ran quite a few restaurants in my time, also cooked as a chef for many years - had lots of fun.... Eating healthy should not be an issue where you can make your own choices, if they let you.
Just explain to the manager, if there is a restriction on what you can have (I totally get what you mean by the way), explain to the manager on duty that "those foods are too heavy to eat coming back from my lunch break, and I dont want to sacrifice good customer service because Im ready to take a nap from the heavy foods"......
Play that card, heheheheh...... it worked GREAT when I was breaking into the industry in my early years!
Personally running the kitchen as a manager and as a Chef, the only rule I had was no Prime Rib, no Seafood (extremely expensive on food cost), but they were more than able to have a nice grilled chicken dinner with any reasonable substitutions. If they didnt want a starch (typical potato item), they could have steamed vegetables, or a salad, a bowl of soup... that sort of thing.0 -
BTW, never under-estimate the power of a well-made Alfredo..... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm lol!!!!!0
