Bruises from running

Let me preface this by saying I am a very fair skinned redhead. I bruise rather easily. I just seriously started a running program within the last two weeks. Suddenly, I am noticing random and unexplained bruises popping up on my legs. I cannot equate a single bruise to a specific injury. Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do to alleviate it, if anything?

(Adding just the facts, I have had blood drawn within the past 6 months, so I know my iron levels are fine, as they were low during pregnancy and post pregnancy that has rectified. I do not have leukemia. My husband is not abusing me. I am not self mutilating. Hope that answers most of the random and ridiculous questions people can think of.)

I used to do get the same, it's due to lack of proper nutrition most likely, since I started to eat more I don't get these anymore. Eat more veggies and fruit and this shouldn't happen anymore. When you started to exercise your body needs more nutrition than normal.

I could go with that, except I have been using mfp for months now. I am not new to this site. This is not a start of a fitness routine, I am just introducing running into my fitness routine. After months of zumba, working out at the gym, and Jillian Michaels dvds, I have taken up running. I will say, that a couple months ago, I started the c25k program to prepare for a dirty girl mud run, and was running on my treadmill. My diary is full of fruits and vegetables and I do not eat low calories. I also take a multivitamin to make sure I get enough vitamin c, iron, magnesium, and potassium. I never had these random bruises until I started running outdoors, which was about 2 weeks ago. Now my legs are covered in them. And some of them are pretty good sized bruises.

Perhaps do you have a PCP that could recommend a good Sports MD to consider evaluating you? There might be some underlying circulatory things going on that a Sports MD might know more of... it could be something simple as a new added stress to the body and you are adjusting...

It could be something as simple as you just bruise easily.

I hear you - pasty white, dark auburn hair... and I bruise real easy. A simple blood draw antecubitally and Im bruised for about 10 days, despite the fact it was painless.

See if you can talk with a nurse over the phone first... if the nurse feels you need to be seen, then go get seen...

I blame my random bruises and scratches on my German shepherd ;-)
In your case, is it possible that the impact from hitting the asphalt makes random blood vessels pop, resulting in bruises? Have you tried running on grass or any other softer surface than the street?
Also, sometimes, about once or twice, I've had bugs hit me hard enough to bruise. Not to mention my reaction to black flies, their bites actually turn into huge red blotches on me.

tpittsley77 I understand, I'd go and see a doctor if I were you, unless wait it out a while longer and see it the bruises will randomly appear again, and maybe they'll go away. I'd see a doc just to be sure thought.
