How to keep weight off while on vacation

Hey everybody!! Next Saturday, I am leaving for a 10 day vacation and worry about how to stay on track while gone. Visiting family, and we do seem to eat when together - a lot!! Any suggestions or ideas??? Thank you :)

Depends where your going :) swimming, bkie riding if it's nice. Or on the hand, forget about calorie counting, enjoy your holiday and get back on it went you get back :)

I did this and the 4lbs i put on soon come off plus more :)

Oh and eat smaller portions and eat slower so your food has time to digest :)

Most of my vacations I go to Disney, which involves a lot of walking..... I've found in some cases I have to eat nearly double the amount of calories I normally do in order to keep up with everything I'm burning.

That being said, do you think they would go for a walk around the neighborhood after dinner? Or maybe you all could take a picnic lunch or something to a park and then go walking or jogging?

I just got back from vacation. I gained a pound but it's already gone. (probably water weight from all the sodium) I ate what everyone else did, but I was really mindful of my portions. I don't like to make a big deal about 'my diet' in front of people because so often the response is 'Eat some. It won't hurt you.' If I just have coffee, while everyone else has dessert, I will be badgered to overeat. But, if it take a little piece of cake, eat a couple bites and leave the rest, no one has a problem with that.

You may just need to adjust your exercise routine due to the schedule and conditions/equipment you have. The temptation to "grab a bite" will be big with a non-normal schedule. Keep some healthy alternatives nearby/stocked to prevent the "munchies", like veggies or healthy nuts.

Above all, don't fret if a day or two has exceeded the calorie goal. Realize it is temporary and keep the overall commitment when you can get back into your routine. HAVE FUN!!

I also suggest drinking a large glass of water before eating any food. That way you will know if you are actually hungry or not and eat smaller portion sizes because of the extra intake of water. Also, just have fun and try not to worry about your weight to much or anything else for the matter. It is a vacation. Worrying can cause increase production of cortisol which can increase visceral fat. So have fun!

I've been stressing out about the same thing. My bestie and I are doing a Thelma and Louise next month. A road trip from the bottom of Aussie to the middle of Queensland. I'm thinking of packing 90 second oats and stopping off at supermarkets and buying ready made salads rather than takeaway places. Dinners will be harder though. And if we stop early enough, I'll go walking around whatever town we're at to get some exercise in, but we'll be spending up to 9 hours in the car driving each day.

Try not to drink too many of your calories!
Keep up with the water to limit the damage for the extra sodium you will no doubt encounter.
    Be mindful of portion sizes.
Take some nuts and other healthy snacks with you.
Do what physical activity you can.
Do not beat yourself up about indulging a little and enjoy yourself!
IMHO the most important thing - get back on track as soon as you get home!

Ayla70, my worry is the road trip part of this vacation also. Seems harder to stay on track because you really can't move a lot while driving. Sounds like you will be doing a lot of fun stuff though, so enjoy.
I drink water only anymore, very rarely do I indulge in anything different, and never have sodas. They almost are too sweet anymore!

I'm the same. Water has always been my favourite drink, so no problems there....except it's winter here, I'm heading to the coldest part, and there aren't always loo stops along the way hahaha. So I'm going to have to limit how much I drink!

And I'm like you, it's the hour of 'sitting' that are worrying me. I like to be on the go. At the end of the day I'll be itching to pull in somewhere just to get some exercise in.
