Why do I crave it?
I mean I dont just eat boat loads of salt
but I crave salty things

    Because your body needs salt to survive. Maybe your not getting enough. I know after taking a few science classes with out salt we would die. I think it's crazy. Not only that but the actual chemical of sodium is a metal and on it's own is very deadly I think explosive is more appropriate. Chloride is a deadly gas. But put them together and you have NaCl table salt!

    I'm sure you are getting enough salt, as sodium is in basically everything that is processed, which most people eat a lot of. You can track it in your food diary, generally 1700-2500 mg is a good range to shoot for. Sodium causes you to retain water. If you are doing intense workouts where you sweat a LOT, eating more salt is ok. Once you cut back on salt, the cravings should dwindle after a while.
