My mother on Sunday afternoon collapsed in her bedroom and I was in the living room. I had to call paramedics and an ambulance and when they came they called in a helicopter. I was just up visiting for the week, but she and I were the only ones in the house at the time. That's my reason for not being on recently. She doesn't have any permanent damage or anything, but it was a minor stroke. Just wanted to inform you for not being on lately.

It is scary when this happens. I was with my Dad when he had his stroke ... six weeks after we lost my Mom. He had PT for about 6 weeks, but had no more problems, other than one minor TIA, and a VERY slight slurring of his speech when he is over-tired. That was 12 years ago. He's now 89, and has been fine since. Now we are starting to deal with the early stages of dementia, but that's age related (and a family tendency), and has nothing to do with his stroke.
I'm wishing your Mom a speedy recovery. I'll pray for her (and you).
One of the most important things about a stroke is to get help right away. She is lucky you were with her.
Since I had a blood clot recently, and with Dad and his sister's history,I am aware that the odds of my having a stroke are higher than normal. (I'm on Coumidin now, but can get off of it in a few weeks!) I keep reminding my husband of how to ID the signs of a stroke, so he won't forget. This seems like a good opportunity to tell others:
Doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK . to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. . . It is sunny out today)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue... if the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
Best wishes to you and your mother.0 -
Thank you and yes I went through all the tests FAST, STR and everything else. My grandfather had a stroke and now my mum so it might come down the line to me idk. I told my husband about it and he says he knows enough to save my life if need be. She doesn't have any damage at all and she seems okay. I'm going to be staying longer just to see how she does.0
