Okay.. I really like oats alot..however, not a huge oatmeal fan. First, I think I'm cooking it wrong..it seems to have no flavor and a bit mush for my liking.. How exactly should I cook it, and add things to make it tastier?? Would adding a splash of milk after it cooks thin it out some?

I work early mornings, so I usually throw oats in a glass container, and pour hot water on them at work. Super easy. But, technically, you're supposed to put it in a pan with 2 parts water to 1 part oats. You cook it like rice (I've done it in the rice cooker when I didn't have time to watch the stove).
Things to add: The best is brown sugar... I usually have enough calories to allow for a spoonful. I usually add raisins, and other dried fruit would work too. Fresh berries on top are great. Ground flax seed or hemp hearts will give it a bit of a kick.
I don't add milk, but only because I rarely have it in the fridge.

there are so many ways to eat oatmeal! You can add fruit to it, cinnamon and other spices, chia, flax, pumpkin puree, peanut butter, granola, chocolate, cocoa powder, protein powder, dried fruit, nuts, quinoa, yogurt etc.

as far as cooking it, I usually microwave it for 1.5 minutes and instead of water I use vanilla almond milk. Typically they say a 2:1 liquid ratio but I probably do 1.5:1 because I like it thicker. You can use any milk for this. One time I tried making it with coffee and it didn't turn out great - probably needed to add honey or stevia.

oatmeal's very forgiving. A lot of people do overnight oats too, meaning they just mix all the ingredients in at night and then let it soak overnight - typically eaten cold. You can make it on the stove top as well. I think one of these day I'm going to try and grate the oats to make them a little finer and see how that tastes.
