Calorie Counting is new to me

Hi I'm Scott, a 22 year old military man who never really gave any thought into calorie counting. I thought it was something that females (no offense) and celebrities did to pass time instead of working out. It was just recently that I learned that working out didn't counter-act the eating I did as much as I thought it did. I've started using MyFitnessPal two days ago and already I feel more organized about how I eat and more inclined to be active. I really didn't understand how important my diet was in contributing to motivation to be active. Hoping to keep this up and like to hear about the success stories from everyone. Losing weight doesn't necessarily mean being in better shape. There needs to be physical activity as well so I plan on taking full advantage of the exercise features of the mobile app. If you have a success story I'd love to hear about it. It can only contribute to my motivation and confidence.

Female here and not offended at all. Actually my husband introduced this whole calorie counting thing to me. I was with your thinking in that it was for skinny girls who wanted to look like super models or celebrities with too much time on their hands who wanted to make a little more money by saying this sorta thing worked. It wasn't till I saw my husband loose 70 pounds doing it and I wanted in. But sadly I ate too much got frustrated after a couple days because I couldn't understand if I was eating healthy stuff (i.e. apples, grapes, and no fat stuff) why I couldn't eat as much as I was hungry for. Then hubby put a few pounds back on after not doing the counting thing for a few years and I was finally ready. I've lost 62 pounds and can't imagine going back. Welcome to the change from thinking it's just for women
and most def. put workouts in your schedule for all it can do is help you. But a word on that for I find many of my new friends falling into this trap ok your body NEEDS 1200 calories to function (that for women I'm not sure what it is for men but I'm sure it's higher) and so many of my friends eat 1400 or whatever and then exercise 800 but then wonder why they aren't loosing weight. They don't understand why because their net is 1500 or whatever and they eat 1400 but I can't tell them enough it's because they are basically starving themselves. Many don't understand the basic math that Food - Exercise = NET which isn't hard since My Fitness Pal puts it on all of our home pages
so make sure your NET is under your goal and you will do great! And good luck! If you need a friend just friend me I'm around.
