Macronutrient Ratios for Strenuous Hiking

I'm just now rounding off the last few weeks of P90x - and I've recently adapted the fat shredder diet (30% carbs / 50% protein / 20% fat). For most of the program I've been eating 60% carbs, 25% protein, 15% fat - but the weight was coming off very slowly (although measurements were decreasing) so I decided to switch it up.

I'm a very avid hiker who spends a lot of time in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Planned for this Sunday is a 14 mile VERY difficult hike where I will need a ridiculous amount of energy that will sustain me 11+ hours, hiking 3500 feet in elevation.

My worry is that the low carb diet will not give me the energy I need for a hike of this difficulty. I definitely have less energy in my workouts since I've started the low carb diet - and burning out on the mountain is not an option.

National Geographic recommends that you eat 70% carbs starting a day before your hike. Do you think this makes sense? Will it ruin my rapid progress that I'm getting with fat shredder? When I start back up on the low carb diet on Monday will it take some time to recover from the high carb weekend? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
