Are you from a different country?
Why do you prefer kg over lbs?
What countries use kg instead of lbs?

    Yes.

Because that is the standard measure here, has been for 40 years.

    Pretty much all of them.

    Bahahaha. So true.

You can change the settings for the measure of units inthr settings I believe.

I'm from Australia and use kg. when quoting lifting numbers I've gotten great at the conversion and know what all my lifts are in lbs as well. Depends who I'm talking too.

Personally kgs, make WAY more sense along with kilometres, centimetres and pretty muxh everything else that involves measuring that the USA doesn't use lol.

    Hi
I am from UK and typically we use both. I started using kg as over 11 stone was terrible but 73.8kg did not seem so bad ( it is all brain games I think I would be too depressed to even start the journey). Also I have a graph of my weight loss and kg is easier than stones and pounds. I have set targets for 11stone, 10.5,10 etc but I tend to think metric these days and it is just so more logical. At the end of the day it does not matter what units you use it is how much you have lost and the target you are aiming for.
However for a country which had decimal currency long before we did why use pounds.... the logic escapes me
  • i am like the rest of the world and i find it really difficult with the miles and ouncess and all that and also i get confused wh they put day , month then year . but on this site i use pounds because instead of losing 10 kgs u lose 20 pounds hahaah :D

The metric system is used pretty much everywhere aside from the US.

Yup, you guys in the US are almost the only ones who have hung onto "old fashioned" measurements like pounds and gallons, most of the rest of the world has moved on by now!

The thing I find confusing is that while most US runners talk about running pace in miles/minutes, they also run 5k and 10k races. How the hell do you work out your pace in those races?

Another person in the rest of the world, here in NZ we went metric before I was born. Takes too much maths thinking to convert to lbs LOL.

You American's are lagging behind the rest of the world!

Have pity on is, it takes too much maths thinking to convert to kilograms too when you're not used to it. And if that were the only thing wrong with us we'd be so much better off than we are!

It wouldn't be so bad if they used the old imperial measurements like the gallon but they had to go and define their own! A US gallon is not the same volume as an imperial gallon.

    lol those graphs are hilarious.
  • I come from Iceland and we use Kg instead of lbs or pounds. We also do not use inces and feet, we use centemeters, meters, km..
  • I am from brazil so my everyday life (and my scale) are measuring in KG. I use LB on MFP because most of my friends here are american and I think they'd enjoy knowing the equivalence to my progress. I really don't mind it
  • But I MUST say that it really annoys me when I check the food database and there's only measurements in oz

I have mix of friends on Metric and english, I think that expecting everyone one to change to pounds to suit the US folks is kind of silly but just don't collect friends who use the way more sensible metric system if you just can't handle metrics. As a scientist I get very frustrated switching back and forth, at work everything is in metric and then I go to cook and have to switch back to English.

Also, since grams are a way more accurate measurement method I too prefer to measure my food in grams.

We do stick to miles though

That confused the hell out of me as a Canadian in London. Everything else made sense, then you threw in all of those "humps for 3/4mi." signs.

I'm British, and I think in stones... I know it isn't at all logical. But measuring in Kg would mean nothing to me. If I've dropped a stone, or approaching another half stone... these are triumphs.

I have to confess being useless at it though. I was at school when Britain went decimal, and the upshot was that we weren't taught anything really. Only since joining MFP have I finally got it into my nut that 1 stone = 14 ounces. And even now I'm still getting the maths wrong :noway:

As long as the overall direction is the desired one, that's all that matters. I like to think that endlessly converting everything will exercise my brain and I won't ever get dementia, but seeing as it doesn't work too well anyway that's probably hopeless optimism

Most people that use stones don't know how many pounds make a stone. And you have to confess, you've know idea what a stone of anything looks like, and would have no idea what picking up a stone weight would be like.

Kilograms however, I'd know straight away.

In NZ and we use metric, but brought up in the UK, so am used to stones and pounds. I have to do calculations to get from kgs to pounds and then from pounds to stones if I want to compare my weight with anything I was in my youth!!

    Yes, I'm from England.

I prefer kg because it's easier for me to work out and read.

Umm ... I don't know to be honest!
  • I pretty much always use SI because of the easier denominations
