I am bummed out. I have been having knee problems for a week and a half now. I am going to have to stop running so I can let it rest. I am going to look for a caloric burn via walking. BUT, today I walked 2 miles at lunch. Yep, my knee started giving out, but it lasted much longer, time and distance wise, than it does when I do my slow jog for 1.6 miles. I burned more calories- and stayed at a sustained elevated heart rate (120 bpm) for 40 minutes as opposed to the 15 to 20 minutes I usually do when running. Plus, I think I can walk every day, as opposed to running every day.

When my knee recovers I am going to go back to my C25K, I am not sure how long it will take me to get back to W6D1, but I want to have a real knee, not an artificial one, when I get through losing my weight!

You have a great plan and I think you'll be surprised how easy it will be to get back to running. A couple of years ago I had a major surgery and didn't run for 3 months, only walked. Not only did I continue to lose weight (I was tracking calories extra carefully too!), the return to running was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Walk with purpose, engage the glutes and core, and stand tall. Walking is an AWESOME exercise if you do it with effort!
  • You may also want to try biking - especially recumbent biking. It builds up the other muscles in your legs and that has really helped with my knee problem. After 4 weeks of biking, but knee pain is steadily going awah.
