I personally don't follow the program to a 'T'. It will tell you to eat clean (no white flours/ carbs, no simple sugars/ carbs, no processed or chemicals) which REALLY helps with the results. Some of the workouts need more space than others. Plyometrics is one that needs as much floor space as you can give for it. The rest of the workouts can be done in approx. a 8X10 area. You need some hand weights and if you don't have a pull up bar some resistance bands. It says to get a yoga mat but I just use an area rug that I hadn't been using before, works just fine. You will see more inches/ size loss than pounds. Just because it focuses more on building muscle than cardio but then that will catch up with you since muscle burns fat and the fat will come off.
I do the workouts 4-5 times a week, some week only 3 depending on school. Most of the workouts are pretty low impact but plyo is high impact so if you are in an apt. (like me) and in the second floor, your neighbors will thank you for omitting that one
Pretty much, it works well. Its main thing that works in its favour is the muscle confusion aspect of it.

It changed my life around. My hubby and I just completed it last month. I was already in what I thought was pretty good shape. I still managed to lose 9 lbs and 4 inches and get back into clothes I almost gave away b/c they didn't fit anymore. We followed the program almost exactly the whole time. The only thing I did to "cheat" was I had a few glasses of wine or diet coke here & there. I will admit I never once did the yoga and I did add extra cardio. The workouts kinda let you go at your own level, but you push it as much as possible. Like, they give you 45 seconds to do however many pushups you can do in that time frame. Each time you do it, just try to do more. If you can't do a pull up on the pull up bar, you will need to purchase and figure out a place to use the bands instead. It requires very little space. I used 10, 12, 15 and 25lb weights. You may want a yoga mat (not just for yoga, but personally I needed it for AB Ripper X). My arms have never been this defined. Although I think the biggest difference was in my legs & butt. I'm doing INSANITY now, but can't wait to get back to the X. It was so effective that I'm kinda scared to not be doing it in some way. I'm scared to lose the results! We both believe more than half of our success is due to following the food guide. We did the portion approach.
Best of luck to you in whatever you decide. I own almost 50 workout DVDs and I would give them all away rather than give up the DVDs of P90x. To me, it is that well-rounded. (FYI, I'm not a Beachbody coach or anything. I don't make any $ saying good things about the programs!)0 -
I can talk all day about P90X. I love it!! After four rounds -- yep, an entire year of following the program -- I lost three pounds, but my body fat went from about 19% to 12.7% (measured just the other day using hydrostatic method). I am currently doing a hybrid of P90X & Insanity.
Feel free to send me a message if you have more questions.0 -
Great program to say the least. Will be finishing my second round next week. Diet is very important. Trying to get enough protein the first four weeks will be tough unless you use whey protein. Eating clean will also be important to keep your energy levels up for the workouts. Plyo will be tough at first, but just take some breaks until you can complete the whole workout. I still think yoga is the toughest workout, but that's just me. I am hoping to rest a week and then join all the goofy people doing insanity. I mean that as a compliment. Just watching the dvd's makes me tired.0
