PB2 "Bricks"?

I just got an order of a couple bags of PB2 from Amazon. The bags are. I'm guessing, vacuum packed, resulting in small but really solid "bricks" of PB2. Has anyone else received these? Are they easy to open up and break up into powder?

Yes. They break apart quite easily once open.

You shouldn't have a problem, it's a very fine powder

Thanks for the replies. I'm familiar with PB2, but I've always bought it in plastic jars, so I wasn't sure if the compressed bricks were different somehow.

Did you order the bricks because of the price? I just fell in love with PB2 but I'm sure it could add up pretty quick at the rate I'm going through it. Anyone know the best deals?

Yes, the bags are cheaper than the jars. I order from Amazon where you can get 2 6.5 oz. jars for $13.95 or a 16 oz. bag for $7.15 - $8.69. Someone said you can get a better deal ordering from the manufacturer's website directly, but I haven't looked into that yet.

I will have to look into the Amazon price

Re: the Bell Plantation price ..... shipping is a deal breaker ...pretty pricey

I have ordered from Netrition.com and shipping was much cheaper. Besides, I could order singles .....Bell Plantaion is groups of 4 (I believe).

Right now on Amazon, you can get a single jar of PB2 for $5.22 or PB2 Chocolate for $4. The only catch is your order has to be $25+ as they're "add on items" since they're too small to ship alone. I bought a new workout DVD with mine to bring the price up. Not sure why the singles are less expensive per jar than the double packs

This may be a dumb question, but after mixing with what I assume is water, how does this taste? I've tried some natural jar versions but can't say I've found PB2 anywhere (jar or powder). Seems like it has great reviews on amazon.

The taste is excellent ..... the consistency .... not so much.

I use it in oatmeal and as a dip for apples, but can't imagine using it on toast.

The taste reminds me of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. It's really not very good for PB&J because of the consistency as TeaBea said. But it's great for adding flavor and protein to other things. I have it every day in my morning smoothie.

I am not a huge fan of it when it is reconstituted with water.

But, it tastes amazing in smoothies or even dusted onto fruit.

First and foremost, when I bought the PB2 in the bag, I just transferred it over to a plastic container instead of leaving it in the bag.

Also, for those who use it for smoothies; have you reconsituted it before you put it in, or did you just put the powder in and blend it. I tried it that way for oatmeal and it didn't really blend in. It just got clumpy.

I just add two spoonfuls of powder right into the blender, mixes up great.

The peanut butter one, isn't as flavorful as regular PB. I love the chocolate PB kind!

the taste is crap...don't believe it. It's nothing like PB by itself. It is good for flavoring smoothies as regular PB but not by itself.

How does this taste compared to regular PB?

It has a peanutty taste, but calling it peanut butter is a huge stretch. I've used it on sandwiches but it doesn't have the mouth feel of peanut butter, not even close. It's pretty good for flavoring other things though.

For oatmeal I'd mix it with water first, or include it in the oatmeal before cooking. For smoothies I add it directly to the liquid and blend, works fine.

Not true. I am a Prime member but this is a new "add-on" thing that they have and is separate from the normal non-prime "free shipping with orders of $25 or more"

Here's the Amazon blurb on it:
"The new Add-on program allows Amazon to offer thousands of low-priced items that would be cost-prohibitive to ship on their own. We've kicked off the Add-on program with thousands of new Add-on Items, and we're adding more each day. Add-on Items ship with orders that include $25 or more of items shipped by Amazon, and you can get them delivered to your doorstep with free shipping."

I love peanut butter, and i think it tastes a lot like the real thing-its really yummy. The consistency is different, because there's a lot less fat, but the only time i find that a problem is when i eat PB2 by itself-and i never do that :) the powder is great in any recipe you want to add a peanut buttery taste to. When you mix it with water and make PB2 peanut butter, its fantastic on toast thats been lightly buttered or sprayed with I Cant Believe Its Not Butter, great on pancakes and to dip celery or apple slices into.

I really think they need to make a crunchy version-i made some PB2 and then chopped up some roasted peanuts nice and small and added just a bit to the PB2 and mixed it together-voila, crunchy peanut butter, and it brings back some of the mouthfeel of the real thing :). Adds a bit more cals, tho.
  • I find that if I intend to eat PB2 alone, it is better if I add a small touch of salt and a touch of a sweetning agent. A little extra water will also make it a little creamier.

I have pretty much replaced regular peanut butter all together with PB2 or my new found product, regular peanut flour, which you can buy online and is cheaper than PB2.

I personally don't really miss the fat and calories as long as i have my peanut butter taste.

I like to mix mine with greek yogurt and use it as an apple dip or just eat it as a peanut butter flavored yogurt. YUMMMMMM

Thank you SO much for posting this! This might finally be the way that I can convince myself to eat greek yogurt (texture gets to me)

I just got my PB2 with chocolate from Amazon yesterday. To me, it's not much different from melted peanut butter. I ate some straight off the knife i used to mix it and the rest I put on my homemade waffles instead of maple syrup

Personally, I really like the taste! And the consistency is just fine for me. I've been spreading it on bananas or making a sandwich with PB2 and sliced strawberries instead of jam, and it's delicious!

A friend of mine does weight watchers and she said she mixes it with cool whip and or frozen yogurt to make low calorie ice cream sandwiches with graham crackers. Have yet to try this but I can imagine it mixes well with a lot of things!

The cool whip ice cream PB2 sandwich suggestion just made me hungry :)

I tried mixing it with less water and found the consistency to be MUCH better.
