Roughly how fast is a 5.0 mph walk.
an awkward question as a 5.0 mph walk is exactly 5.0 mph.
But I was wondering in more descriptive terms what how fast would a 5.0 mph walk look?
Is it almost to the point of jogging?

Are you trying to figure out how fast you are walking? Go online and map our you walking route. At 5mph you should cove a mile in 12 min. It's pretty close to jogging. I can't walk that fast lol0

Wow, there's a way you can map out your walking route on myfitnesspal?
This site keeps getting better and better.0 -
12 minute mile.
and walking/jogging speeds will depends on your things like your stride length. someone with longer legs and a long stride will have an easier time walking a 12 minute mile than someone with shorter legs and shorter stride.
for instance my walk/run threshold is around 5.1/5.2 miles an hour but a good friend of mine is practically jogging at a 4.5 mph speed. we're about the same height, but i have longer legs and take longer strides1 -
I think she means map the distance you are walking online and see how long it takes to go 1 mile. A 5 mph walk is pretty fast and is a 12 minute mile. I don't think I can walk much faster than 4mph without jogging.0

I use www.mapmyride.com- to easily plot and easure my walks/runs/ries..... then time myself on the walk I just mapped and do the math. (with calculator , cuz well, my time is limited and my math is slow)0

5 mph. Let's see. I'm 5'11", have a 35 inch inseam, and when I'm walking fast, I can walk 4 miles per hour. 3.5 mph is more comfortable to me. 5 mph is a speed that slow joggers can keep up.
hope some of the replies you're getting are helpful!
If you are near a quarter mile track, it is the pace at which you could walk around once in three minutes.0 -
I am 5'1" and when I go 4 mph, I look like I'm flying, lol! But my 6'1" husband looks like he's walking a normal stride.
If you have a smartphone, check out Endomondo or MapMyRun. They are free apps so you can try it before you get the pro-versions. (Or just keep using the free one!)
5 mph would be a jog for me.1 -

my normal pace is 4mph. And everybody says I walk very fast. 5mph walking is a very rapid walk. You'll be going faster than some people's "jogging" pace. Average pace for olympic style race walking for the 30 MILE race is about 7mph. For the shorter distances, it's slower, between 5.5 and 6.5mph. So 5mph is actually a heck of a pace.0 -
Wow... what a great forum! Thanks, guys!0

5 mph would be a slowish run for me.
My brisk walking speed (that I can keep up for some distance) is around 4mph.
To map your run and calculate speed and distance you can use something like Runkeeper or Mapmyrun online.
Or you can get them as apps on your smartphone to track while you walk.
Or you can get the Zombies, Run! app on your smartphone which not only logs your time, distance and pace but also give you a story line complete with zombie chases to get you moving (completely off topic, but lots of fun!)0 -
my 'normal brisk walk' is 4.29MPH. I made an exercise entry for myself.
"walking, 4.29 MPH (Zombie Escape Speed)"0 -
I’m 5’10 and 5mph is about as fast as I will walk. I only ever need to walk this fast on university campus since I can’t actually run to and from classes. Aside from extending my step length it doesn’t require any changes to how I walk normally. Any faster than this and I have to start jogging, pushing off the ground to propel myself forward.0

Zombie Alert!!
Your first post resurrected a thread 11 years dead. I wonder how long it took to scan to find in the first place.0 -
go on Google Earth. There is a ruler function and you can use it for distances if you don’t have a distance app on your phone0

Lmao best thread bump ever0
