I'm pretty new to kettlebell workouts. I finished Jillian's Ripped in 30 and decided to do Insanity. I really like Insanity except there isn't any strength training. So I bought Jillian's Shred it with weights. I watched the DVD and saw I needed a kettlebell. I looked around for some and found a nice 5 pound one. I did the first workout and felt pretty good about it. I did more looking about and found out that women who are just starting with kettlebells should get a 8-14 pound bell. When I was in the store 10 pounds felt too heavy. I'm feeling very bad now that maybe I don't have the right weight and after doing Shred it with weights level one again I realize that 5 seems to be doing a pretty good job should I get the 10 pounds anyways? or wait until I am more advanced?

Thanks!!

I'd recommend going up to the 10lb. one even if it does feel a bit heavy right now. I do the Shred it With Weights video as well and used the 5lb. kettlebell for the 1st workout, but felt it was too light so I've been using the 10lb. ever since. I'm fairly wimpy (ha!) but the 10lb. one is manageable. I'm probably going to move up to a 15lbs. one soon.

Hey! I started with a 10lb. after a few weeks it got super light so i bumped up to a 15lb. Theres some workouts that i cant do just yet with the 15lb but i totally recommend you going ahead and getting the next size because youll be surprised how quickly youll switch to the next one! A side note: Im not sure if you have a Marshalls where you live but ive bought all my weights there! Id price the kettlebelss for sure cause Ive noticed some of them can get pretty pricey the higher the weight gets. Good luck!!!

Shred it With Weights is considered dangerous in the kettlebell community, so probably stick to 5? You can google 'jillian kettlebell' and read tons about it.

For kettlebell workouts taught by RKC certified instructors, most women are encouraged to start with an 8kg (18lb.)

Really? I love the workout and it made my heart beat fast. I do have other kettlebell videos. But I want to do them later. :(
