Small, medium, large frame???

I hear people talk about how they are small, medium, and large frame...How do you know? Is it by measurements?

They could be just estimating? I'm not sure how you'd find that out. Maybe measuring?
  • Below is how you calculate you need a flexible measuring tape.

    Women:

    •Height under 5'2"
    ◦Small = wrist size less than 5.5"
    ◦Medium = wrist size 5.5" to 5.75"
    ◦Large = wrist size over 5.75"
    •Height 5'2" to 5' 5"
    ◦Small = wrist size less than 6"
    ◦Medium = wrist size 6" to 6.25"
    ◦Large = wrist size over 6.25"
    •Height over 5' 5"
    ◦Small = wrist size less than 6.25"
    ◦Medium = wrist size 6.25" to 6.5"
    ◦Large = wrist size over 6.5"
    Men:

    •Height over 5' 5"
    ◦Small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5"
    ◦Medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"
    ◦Large = wrist size over 7.5"

I have heard if your thumb and middle finger don't touch around your wrist your big boned, if they just touch your medium, if they overlap your small boned.
I have small bones for a Guy, mine overlap 2 inches

just agreeing on the wrist test.

My fingers only come about an inch from touching on my wrist.

I have a small frame. it is calculated by measuring the width of your elbow joint and/or wrist size (tape must be snug). You can easily measure yourself. I did it myself. My doctor did it using a body analyzer and a personal trainer at my gym also did it using calibers. All three confirmed the same thing ... I am a small frame. ^_^

I did the fingers around the wrist thing years ago and determined I was big boned. It was just confirmed with the measurement test as outlined in this post.

There's also a way to measure using the size of your elbow. http://www.healthchecksystems.com/heightweightchart.htm#frame
The directions and chart are near the bottom of the page. As I've always known, I'm large boned at about 5'3". My mom's wedding ring fits snugly on my pinkie finger.
